Re: What percentage of your clothes are designer?

If you count CK, DKNY, and Ralph Lauren as desginer clothes I have them in my closet, but not their higher end labels nor runway looks. To me, that is true "designer" clothing. It doesn't fit into the lifestyle I live, so it's not for me.

Actually the thread was asking "What percentage of your clothes are designer?"

Not....how do you feel about people who buy designer??

So who turned it into something that it wasn't??

The point is, if thats what people like to wear, whats the difference? I have things that are designer because I like them, not to show off.

that's fine... to each his own. to me, it's silly, to you its not.

I just don't understand why you feel the need to say it's silly. Chat Icon

because that's what i think of it. didn't know i needed to clear my thoughts through and approval board. are people really offended by the word "silly" Chat Icon

i said something was "silly". That was it, silly.

you went off the deep end.

I don't see your comparison at all. If you like your labels, good for you.. like others have said... as long as you like it, thats all that matters... no need to justify yourself... But, you're out to prove a point, and all you're doing is

making

yourself

Bottom line...you gave your opinion when you weren't asked for it and you got on the offensive when I confronted you on it.

I asked you a simple question and it was YOU who went off the deep end by jumping on the offensive. All I did was ask a question. Chat Icon

Actually... THIS is where you made it 100X more dramatical than it ever needed to be....
Posted by babybug631
Well now this has officially turned into another thread about people judging and feeling the need to share negative opinions on how others spend their money.

The "board" has spoken.

and, just to REPEAT for clarification.....

Posted by neenie
oh lord.. get over yourself.
you need to calm down... i said i thought something was silly... others agreed... nowhere did ANY of those people (myself included) say that anyone was less of a person because of it.. just stated OPINION.. i'm sure you have a bunch of your own. I think the average person spending that sort of money on clothing is Silly.. you may think leather pants are silly... its all a matter of opinion. If someone is offended by something as silly as 2% of their wardrobe being called "silly" they have bigger issues to concern themselves with.

maybe pick a more powerful platform to advocate for next time Chat Icon

Re: What percentage of your clothes are designer?

Wow! There is a lot of controversy on this thread! I didn't mean to start anything. Really I was just curious, because now that I've lost weight, I'd like to build a nice wardrobe. I finally feel good in clothes again, but its been a loooooong time since I've done hardcore shopping.

techincally speaking- brands like Juicy, theory, BCBG, Laundry, Taharti, and DKNY etc are not designer

then are refered to in the fashion world as "bridge" (yes I went to FIT) or ready to wear- b/c they are the collections that bridge between the designer goods and the moderate goods

ready to wear- meaning not couture or custom fitted

ETA- so I think your real question was what percentage of your clothes are bridge/ready to wear?- I think you would have gotten different answers

to answer that question at least 60% for me

Probably 10% or so. They are only mine because they were such a bargain.

My mother taught me well. I've never paid anything close to retail.

Same with me. If CK counts than more but I buy it all at Marshalls or TJMAXX. I alswo buy more expensive shoes(stuart weitzman, Franco Sarto, etc-but not surre they would be considered designer.

Re: What percentage of your clothes are designer?

hahahaha... the only "designer" item that I have is Coach - and I don't even think that counts as designer these days. PLUS, I don't CARE about superficial designer **** - I'd rather spend my money on other things!

Re: What percentage of your clothes are designer?

I was going to say 0%, then I remembered that I had a Michael Kors bathing suit..that I bought b/c I liked the design, not b/c it had a designer name.

I don't have the money for that type of stuff, but even if I did, in all honesty, and with no offense intented to anyone who does buy designer stuff, I usually don't see anything very special about the merchandise that makes it something that I want.
