We are not gogin to be looking to buy for at least 2 years but looking at prices this is one place that has detached house that we may actually be able to afford. Ideas?

Re: anyone live in Bellerose, Queens or know a lot about it?
I grew up in Bellerose and my parents still live there. The school district (26) is one of the best (Im a teacher so I know). Many people have lived there for years and years, however within the last few years there has been more and more foreigners moving in. I don't see a problem with it but I know a lot of people are not happy (very prejudice, i know). It is centrally located and extremely convenient to get to..FM me with any questions.

East of the cross island is considered better as it is in school district 26 which is a great district. West of the CI is another district and has a different feel to it.
If you look north of Hillside Ave and Union the prices will be MUCH higher as it is considered more desireable, however the houses are not very big for the prices. Betwen Hillside and Jericho is very nice as well and more affordable but the closer to Jericho Turnpike you get the houses seem closer and more congested.
As far as the pp, there are a lot of Indian people in Bellerose, it is not an issue for me since they keep there houses nice, their kids do well in school and they dont have loud parties, but to each his own!
Good Luck!

Can I ask, do you not want to pay Nassau taxes? If taxes are the reason, i understand.
But I would not recommend it to anyone just starting out.
I know a few people there and they do not like the way things have changed. I cant say which area is better than the other though.

What about Bayside? I would move to Bayside over Bellerose.

I grew up in Bellerose. It has changed but I think it is still nice and convenient to everything.

I live in Bellerose, It's a good area and a great Location. The taxes are low , since it is Queens. There is a big Indian population in Bellerose. You could always takea ride around after dinner and check out the neighborhood to see if you like it.

I grew up near Bellerose-- My address was not Bellerose, but my elementary school was. I have not been there in YEARS-- I moved away when I was 13... but when I drive by there, I am amazed at how much it has changed over the last 20 years!
Great location to the city and LI though.

Re: anyone live in Bellerose, Queens or know a lot about it?
DH grew up in Bellerose, I grew up right near it. It has changed, but then again I am looking back over 30 years of living there.
We moved because we wanted more property. Houses are way too close together for us, but that is Queens.
There are different areas of Bellerose, Nassau or Queens- I would also suggest taking a drive around to see the different housing options.
Its convenient to NYC if you can walk to the LIRR otherwise taking a bus to the subway to downtown or uptown Manhattan can take up to an hour and a half. Same time as some places on LI or upstate. So it depends on where you work too.

I like Bellerose Village, behind all the stores as you are traveling down Jericho Turnpike on the lefthand side. Houses back there are so nice! As for Bellerose itself, it wouldn't be my first choice.
