(15 mins. before I tell him!!) need advice on telling boss

I want to tell my boss about my pregnancy today. We are all going out tonight for drinks to say goodbye to a coworker and I want to enjoy myself and just have my water without all the 'why aren't you drinking' questions! So I should tell my boss before I tell my Coworkers, right?

The problem is that my boss is away on business. Do you think it is ok to tell him over the phone? Or should I tell him Monday and tell th coworkers tonight and take a chance that they won't get to him before I tell him on Monday. I actually have two bosses to tell but they are both away!!!

I'd definitely tell the boss first. If it were me, i'd probably just do the old cranberry and soda and attempt to play it off as a drink and just wait until monday when you can tell the boss in person. I dont think it would be that bad to tell the boss today over the phone though if you really dont want to do that though.

I was going to say the same thing as above.....hummm can you just say you are driving and don't want to drink? or that you have a stomach ache? It's so hard for me and work things also!

I would recommend telling your Boss first also. Good Luck!

I don't know... I don't think you have to tell your boss first in this situation. You're going out for drinks and your boss is away so you have to tell your co-workers before tonight. Just tell them you plan to tell your boss on Monday and to not say anything until then so you can be the one to tell.

I have a 2 and a half hour train ride home, and I am so friggin sick of making up excuses!!! either I tell him, or go home and not go out.

I'd tell my manager in person and wait to tell everyone else.

Then I'd just tell my coworkers you don't want a drink. If they asked me why, I'd ask them if I needed an excuse not to have a drink. It's not like you are obligated to have an alcoholic drink if you go into a bar.

Once you tell them, you will get a lot of "That's why you didn't have a drink" and they'll understand.

I'd just take ten minutes and call your bosses privately and let them know even if its on the phone.

Let them know you wanted them to know before anyone else since you have to tell them (your co-workers) tonight anyway because of the circumstances.

My friends were just saying during lunch how much they love it when I come out and drink because I am funny and let loose. So I said, that I am coming tonight and didn't say I wasn't drinking. I just don't think excuses will work and I don't want to think about this anymore.

Thanks for your advice girls!! I told my friend and he is going to order my drinks tonight!! he said to tell them in person.
