Um, salary requirements going down???
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have been putting down what I thought were the industry standard for my salary requirements, and I am getting low-balled by a large amount....some even as low as 20% less
Is the economy really getting this bad that the salaries are dropping?

How does a company justify this? Or even tell you that they want you to do your same job for less, when cost of living keeps going up?

I am fully convinced that I was not getting any interviews because my salary requirements were too high......very sad, and I wasn't even asking for more than I make now.
Then everyone wonders why young people are moving off LI.....

right and they told me this when i was pregnant and knew it...they said they are doing it across the board ..however i know of 5 people besides myself that rec pay cut and then on the same hand i know of 10 people they did not touch their salary.

Yep. I went on an interview recently and thought it went very well. The position was in my industry and I was clearly qualified. I went back to meet with the head of the department and salary was finally discussed. Needless to say, the interview was over right after that. Sadly enough, I wasn't asking for anything beyond what the "norm" is for my experience level.

I think a lot of LI companies are back-office type work (not all, but a lot) and these businesses see cut backs first. It really is a shame, there are not a lot of good, well-paying jobs here.

3 of the jobs were large firms in NYC

It happened to DH. One of his clients contacted him....like he was the man that was going to "save" them. The over inflated the position. He went for FIVE interviews. Met with the controller to discuss $$. How much DH wanted, the guy said that it was in their range.... well guess what, they send "another guy" to deliver the dirty message with a salary offer worst than what he is making now.
What a waste of time! Especially when THEY initiated the whole thing.

my job lowered salaries 5%
Those who were making above the range are capped until they are promoted to the next salary level.

DH was interviewing for a position. He told them his current salary and they didn't flinch...making him (us) think that at the very least, they could match it. well in the end, they offered him 13K less than what his current job was paying!!!!
Fortunately, he was able to negioate, though he still ended up taking a cut. But the cut is worth it to have him home on weekends. 
Regardless, it really stinks how jobs aren't paying so great now...
