Dengue Fever
Would you be worried if you were traveling somewhere Dengue Fever has been reported (like in the Carribean)

We were in Costa Rica earlier this summer, and all the guide books mentioned Dengue Fever. I was not worried.....

Nope. We were in South America over the summer -- where it is an epidemic in many places -- and didn't give it a second thought.
It's transmitted by mosquitos, so wear DEET. We also sprayed stuff called Permethrin on our clothes. It lasts through several washings.

i dont worry about me as much as my kids. Its worse in kids under 15 and mine are a lot younger than that!! I also dont put DEET on them. Cayman has 6 reported cases of it so its not an epidemic yet but I dont want my kids being 7,8 & 9 KWIM

I'm sure there are some insect repellants that are safe for kids, probably even DEET (at lower concentations than for adults). I would check the American Academy of Pediatrics web site for their recommendations.
Either way, I wouldn't let 6 cases keep me from enjoying a vacation!

OMG my brother in law came back from the Dominican Republic last week and caught this. He was pretty sick. This is transmitted from infected mosquitos. Make sure you have plenty repellent.
