Removing sheetrock/installing new pieces
Can someone explain to me how this is done? My DH said it's no big deal, but I think otherwise. Is it really that easy and quick of a job? We will need to replace the wall in between the top and bottom cabinets in the kitchen. Thanks!

It's no big deal. We had this done yesterday at a rental by our friend (a contractor).
You will need a knife (utility to cut the sheetrock), panels of sheetrock, nails (special ones for sheetrock), tape (fiberglass or paper), a hand trowel (for smoothing the mud), compound (sheetrock mud) and sandpaper plus the paint. You will need a tape measure too.
Find the wall studs & cut out the damaged section of the wall as straight as possible. Measure the hole and cut a replacement piece to fit into the hole. Nail it into place onto the wall studs and put the mud on the seams and smooth it down.. Then apply the tape then apply more mud and smooth it down. Once it's dry (maybe 2 hours) you can sand it down, prime & paint.

Re: Removing sheetrock/installing new pieces
Drywall sanding dust gets EVERYWHERE! Just make sure you block off the room you are working in from the rest of the house, and use a mask so you don't breathe in too much dust.
Other than the dust issue, it's not bad. An entire house is a lot of work, but pieces are pretty easy.

We did a lot of this in our house and the only thing I would suggest differently (if you havent done it already :) ) is, instead of sanding, use a very SLIGHTLY damp rag to smooth out the joint compound. It eliminates the dust issue and I found it comes out much smoother.

Re: Removing sheetrock/installing new pieces
Definitely not a big deal. Sometime my DH will replace the whole wall - other times he just puts the 1/4" sheetrock over things...like wood paneling where there is no insulation behind it or the ceiling (has done that twice to different rooms).
