Re: Motrin or Tylenol
I haven't given DS Motrin yet. Ped said to only use it for fevers above 102. I think as long as he's 6 months, you CAN give Motrin, and it will last longer than Tylenol.
I'd wait 4 hours after the last dose of Tylenol before giving Motrin.
Good luck!! I hope he sleeps!!

according to my ped. and the ER staff you can give both motrin and tylenol at the same time.
The only reason I know is because DS was spiking a 104.6 fever two weeks ago and I had already given him tylenol before I called the ped. but like a half hour later when the ped. called she told me to give him motrin because it'll last longer (through the night) and that they are different drugs. If you are hesitant you can try calling any pharmacist and they can confirm either way.

Re: Motrin or Tylenol
I prefer Motrin, which lasts up to 8 hours. Seems to work better at night. You can give it up to 10 days in a row.

Re: Motrin or Tylenol
Motrin is better for teething - it lasts longer. Though, for any kind of cold/virus, our pediatrician recommends we only use tylenol because the anti-inflammatory properties of motrin can interfere with the body's natural way of fighting the infection.

Re: Motrin or Tylenol
motrin...it's ibeprofen (spelling??) which is anti-inflammatory (anti swelling). That's what causes pain with teething...the swelling of the gums and pressure of the tooth breaking through.

Re: Motrin or Tylenol
oh ps-- tylenol is easier on the stomach.. so i always did tylenol 1st and then if i really needed something more i would go for the motrin but make sure they dont have an empty stomach.

Re: Motrin or Tylenol
Motrin is by far the better of the 2 for my DD when she is teething. Tylenol does nothing for my DD. As long as your DS is over 6 months he can take Motrin.
