sinus infection
Did anyone have to deal with a sinus infection during pregnancy?? What did you do or take? I actually have an upper respiratory infection and sinus infection and the only thing my OBGYN told me I could take is the Z-Pack but that doesn't help my sinuses. I have not been able to breath for 3 days and I have tried so many natural things (steam, hot compress, sinus rinse) and nothing is working. My dr. told me NOT to take Sudafed or anything with phenylephrine. Any advice???

Re: sinus infection
There is a Sudafed that we can take, but I asked the pharmacist before I bought it and sure enough what was on the shelf was NOT the right one, she had it behind the pharmacy counter.
I had 2 sinusitis flair ups early on. At the time I had no idea I could take anything at all, so I did decaf tea with a tablespoon of honey and a squeeze of real lemon, also garggled with salt water for my throat pain. I did the hot and cold compresses and wanted to put my head through a wall I was so sick the first time (I was only 6 weeks so what did I know). I toughed it out both times, but after the second I asked my high risk doc and she suggested the correct Sudafed. Of course since I now have the Sudafed in my possession (which I would only take if it got real bad, not just a cold like thing), knock on wood, I have not had any sinus flair ups. That same doc also gave me a script for Flonase (the generic) and that helped a lot too, but I stopped it after I no longer needed it, but still have it just in case and when I've thought something may come on I've taken it at night to alleviate the occassional nasal drip, but I try not to take anything continuously that I don't have to.
You can also use saline nasal sprays like Ocean. Hope you feel better, I know it stinks!!

Yes the sudafed you need is sold behind the counter. You have to show your ID to get it. Its just the REGULAR sudafed. If you tell the pharmacist that you're pregnant, they'll know exactly which one so they can point you in the right direction.

Re: sinus infection
Wow, I feel so bad for you! I had 3 sinus infections during my pg but the z-pack worked each time. Have you let your doctor know it's not working?

Re: sinus infection
I told my doctor that it wasn't working and she said to call my regular doctor again. But I really don't want to take anymore prescriptions if I don't have to.
