Really bad diaper rash
i don't know what to do. my dd has severe diaper rash. she cannot sit in a diaper without it flaring up. i constantly put her in a clean diaper. I use balmex with every diaper change. it will clear up for a day, but then it will turn really red again.
any suggestions for treatment? are there certain foods to avoid?

Re: Really bad diaper rash
I've never used it, but people swear by Triple Paste.
But I think you should try to let her butt air out a little bit, fresh air is the best thing for it!

I agree. I always give both sons time to air out as much as possible. I worry more about the diaper rash than the potential accidents.
I also use powder (even though people say not to). If you put it on your hand and then pat it then it won't fly all over the place. I alternate between paste and powder. The powder gets rid og any extra moisture.
I would also talk to the doctor because she might be eating something that is burning her hiney.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
I know people are hesitant to use it, but the boy I watch came to me once with a killer rash....we put corn starch on it and it was clear in 2 days.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
If you have it in the house, dab some maalox on the affected area with a cotton ball. Sounds odd but works like a charm (recommended by our pediatrician).

Re: Really bad diaper rash
Oh boy, do I know how you feel. DD had a diaper rash for 3 months!! The ONLY thing that worked was baby powder w/ cornstarch. I even tried Vusion ointment (prescription),and of course every single over the counter cream under the sun, and nothing worked. I found that the creams kept in the moisture, and as long she was dry, she had no problems. Within a few days with the baby powder, she was getting better, and now she has no red at all.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
It can also be a baby yeast infection - which looks just like a bad diaper rash.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
in that case, I'd use Triple Paste.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
I've used triple paste and original destin with my dc's when they had bad rashes and both worked great. I also had to change my son's diapers from pampers to huggies b/c I realized that for him the rashes would get worse.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
DS has a rash that comes and goes. He's been off and on a prescription cream. Once its done, the rash comes back. Took him to the Dr. on Monday and we are now trying a new prescription cream. It was also suggested I change diapers. So, we shall see if that helps too.

I swear by Triple Paste. You may have to ask the Pharmacist for it. Sometimes they keep it behind the counter.

Re: Really bad diaper rash
i would avoid juices, that will cause it to burn when they pee,if the creams dont help,i would go to the doctor, try a nice bath a few times a day,and let the baby air out a little with out the diaper, maybe hold the baby with a towel wrapped around.maybe you should switch diapers, and use the wipes that are for sensitive skin.
