Placenta Previa
Does anyone have experience with placenta previa? At my 16 week appmt, everything with the baby was perfect, but I have a partial previa. The dr told me most likely (90-95%) chance it will move, but if it doesn't, I will have to have a c-section 4 weeks before my due date. I'm trying not to worry yet, I'm holding out hope that it will move by my 20 week appmt. But if it doesn't, I think I get put on some restrictions and they have to monitor me very closely. Has anyone had this or know anything about it?

Re: Placenta Previa
i had it... it moved... the dr just said to take it easy and no sex for a while... it moved pretty late...i had a ton more ultrasounds then usual, but it was cool to see the baby all the time... im 35 weeks now... the placenta moved, but now im breach, so it still looks like a c-section for me...

Re: Placenta Previa
I had partial with DD#1 and it moved up but ended up needing c-section because I was having an abruption.
4 weeks before your due seems really early because of placenta previa.

Re: Placenta Previa
I just had my level II last Friday and I am 21 weeks today. I was informed that I have a full placenta previa, which wasn't really a surprise since the told me the same at my 12 week appt. I have a regular Dr. appt this Friday and at that point will ask if there is anything special that I should or should not be doing, but in the meantime I haven't changed anything and I am scheduled to go back for another ultrasound in 8 weeks. I will continue to have to go for additional ultrasounds and if it doesn't move then I will require a c-section. I will keep you posted if I get any other information on Friday.

Re: Placenta Previa
I started with a low lying placenta at 14 1/2 weeks then it was partial but my last sono showed that it slowly moved they said it was totally normal and can happen with reproductive services (which we did) I think that now it is much better I know that it is scarey but I am sure baby is fine I am now 17w 2d and so far so good so hang in there I hope it moves up for you though as far as restrictions I was couch bound for 3 weeks I am finally allowed to get around a bit I am out of work now and probably will stay out but I am a nursing assistant and will not risk hurting the baby so I decided to stay out until she arrives

Re: Placenta Previa
I also had a particial and am now 35 weeks.
I have been on pelvic rest from about 23 weeks.
It finally moved last week at 34 weeks and I can try to have a vaginal delivery. If it didn't move, I was also told I would have a c section about 2 weeks before.
Good luck

Re: Placenta Previa
Thanks for all the responses. My doctor didn't give me any restrictions yet. He said if it didn't move by 20 weeks, then he would. But I think I am going to call today to see if it would be better if I went on pelvic rest now or something, because I want to do anything possible for the baby, and now I'm too scared to do much of anything anyway.
4 weeks did seem really early to me. My dr said I could push it to 3 weeks before, and promised they would do an amnio and not deliver until the baby's lungs were developed. But he said the danger is that I start labor on my own, in which case I'd start hemorraging and it could be really dangerous. I asked if they could just monitor me very closely, but he said they can't tell when labor is going to start.

After reading this whole post again I figured it would be in my best interest to contact my doctor today, instead of waiting until Friday. Turns out that it is a good thing I did.
My Dr. has now informed me that I must not lift anything, do any kind of movements that may add any kind of pressure, and need to abstain from having s e x until I have my next sono appointment, which is scheduled for 8/15. He also stated that if at the 28 week sono the placenta hasn't moved I will be placed on strict bed rest. Needless to say I am a little upset about all this, but will take the next 8 weeks to get all my ducks in a row as best as possible - just in case.

Re: Placenta Previa
I have 2 friends who had previa - one partial, one complete. Friend with partial had a c-section a week or so before her due date.
Friend with complete previa began having episodes of bleeding around 30 weeks and spent the rest of her pregnancy in the hospital on bed rest -- they didn't want to chance her cervix dialating. She delivered via c-section about a month early.
If you do end up with complete pervia, you have a chance of hemmoraging if you start dialating, which is why they would want an early c-section. I hope this doesn't scare you too much. Most previa does clear up.

Re: Placenta Previa
I called my doctor today and am still waiting for a return call. I'd really like to know if I should be doing anything differently now. I don't want to take any chances, so if that means pelvic rest, no exercise, etc now, then I'm all for it. Hopefully he calls back soon!

Re: Placenta Previa
I had complete previa at my 20 week and it moved by my 26th week.
BTW...
I was put on pelvic rest...no s e x; no heavy lifing; I was able to work but rest as much I could.

Re: Placenta Previa
Well, my doctor's office finally called me back and they said that there are no restrictions yet. I'm 17 weeks today, so I guess they are waiting to see what happens at my 20 weeks appointment. If it hasn't moved by then, then the restrictions start.
Thanks for all of the responses! I really appreciate them.
