Bad Experience -Need Advice

Today, my very pregnant sister and I went to babies r us in college point to return some of the items that were purchased from her registry (she changed her mind on a few items). The manager refused to take the items back claiming that the return policy states that unless the person who bought the item took it off of her registry, they could not even issue merchandise credit. Clearly the item is on her registry its just that the person did not have it removed when they got to the register. The manager was extremely rude and did not want to hear from us or even look at the merchandise. Has anyone had this experience before? We have to return the items and all we are asking for is to be treated like valued customers and for some merchandise credit. Any ideas?

I think that BRU just recently changed their return policy. I know the girls on the parenting board were all talking about it about a week ago. Unfortunately, I am not sure if there is anythign you can do about it. Perhaps you can try a different store? I know the store in Commack(by the Islip Airport) is VERY lenient...

Re: Bad Experience -Need Advice

you should do 2 things:

1 - try another store I know the one in Holbrook/Patchogue is pretty good.

2 - send a note direct to their CEO on how disappointed you were, how you've been a loyal customer and that you thought he would appreciate knowing how a customer was treated at one of his stores. Also, in this letter if you still need help ask him for it.

BRU's return policy was just made this way - so horrible in terms of customer service...

Look into Walmart, and if they carry the item you may be able to get return credit there.

I'm suprised because if it is on your registry they usually take it back without a problem. I'd try another BRU or call corporate and complain.

Re: Bad Experience -Need Advice

This is the most obsurd policy I have ever heard of.. I would even write a letter to the better business bureau. Isnt it the cashiers job to check the registry or ask the person if it is a gift and is the person in fact registered?? What if the person is not registered and bought something and wants to return it?? They cant?? This makes absolute no sense? Chat Icon

Ridiculous!

I would
1. Call BRU & get it taken off the registry - say someone purchased it for you & forgot.

2. Go back & return it.

3. Then fire off an email complaining of their policy. They need to know it will affect their business.

I would call customer service for BRU and ask them what there return policy is or go to another BRU and ask for a manage. He could aleast give you a store credit.

Re: Bad Experience -Need Advice

Have your sister remove it from her on-line master registry. She can mark it as purchased by just putting a 1 in the purchased colum and hitting update. They will accept the return then

Re: Bad Experience -Need Advice

I would put a complaint into headquarters.. Its ridiculous that they wouldnt take back b/c it wasnt off registry.. maybe the cashier didnt do it right when they scanned the item.
