Re: Alli???
I took it for a while as a jumpstart - it worked really well. I think I lost 30 pounds in 2 months; but I have ALOT of weight to lose so most people probably wouldn't lose that quickly.
It forces you to follow a low-fat diet. I didn't want to use it forever or use it as a crutch, so I used it to force myself into the healthy eating mindset, which I now follow on my own without the help of the drug.
ETA: It's an extreme drug, only recommended for severly overweight/obese people; not to lose 10-15 pounds. If you look on the alli website I think there is a calculator or chart that lets you know if you are a candidate to use it.

Yes - the drug causes most fat to be blocked from being absorbed into your system.
You MUST follow a low fat diet, or the fat you consume will be eliminated from your system in 'other ways' to put it nicely.

Re: Alli???
They give you a typical menu in the starter kit.... it's a basic low fat diet, as recommended by the American Heart Association.
If I remember correctly (it's been 4 or 5 months since I've been on it) you can't have more than 30 grams of fat a day. But don't take my word for it - read thru the website and documentation before you start.

You lose weight on the pill because it blocks the absorbtion of fat in your body. If you don't absorb any fat, or a small amount of fat - you burn your fat reserves.
So it's kind of a combination of both.
It forces you to eat lowfat, because you don't want the pain and 'consequences'.
But even the low amount of fat you do consume that is within plan, your body will only absorb about half of it so you lose weight that way.
I also looked up on the website, the limit is about 15 grams of fat per meal. That is what they consider a 'lowfat' diet.

It's like any other diet, any other pill. If you go back to the eating habits that made you overweight in the first place, you'll gain it back.
