1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

I need some input. DH and I will be married one year on Sept. 14th. We would love to go away for about 3 nights. I was thinking Newport, RI. Neither of us has ever been there and I figure it is the type of place that we can stroll around [or in my case, waddle!]

Do you girls think that going about 3 and 1/2 hours away when I am 34 weeks is stupid? Do you think I will be so miserable that it will be something that I regret doing? Any input would be fabulous. Chat Icon

Based on how I am feeling now at almost 29 weeks I can't imagine sitting in a car for any length of time now let alone in a few weeks. I am constantly in the bathroom too which would make a 3 1/2 hr. trip last 5 hrs. Chat Icon Chat Icon If you feel good though and you're up to it I say go but I know that for me I physically would not be up to it. Chat Icon

Re: 1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

We just took a trip to Vermont at 32 weeks. The car ride was 5.5 hours, plus lots of time added for bathroom and stretch breaks!

My feeling was this: I am uncomfortable pretty much no matter where I am. I found being in the passenger seat, with shoes off, and a small blanket rolled up as back support, made the difference. I was surprisingly comfortable. Stopping to pee every half hour.... I could have done without, however, but it was worth it.

Whilst away, we could not do the hiking we typically do, but the calm and the beauty and the relaxation were very worth it.

At 34 weeks there is no way I would be able to sit in a car for 3.5 hours or do all that walking around.

I wouldnt have wanted to go... but i am also someone who enjoys being home... maybe earlier in the pregnancy before the tiredness of the 3rd trimester really settled in...

Re: 1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

another thought: pregnancies are so unpredictable... everyone one has different reactions to them, and you never know who you will feel from day to day- i have had a great pregnancy so far and have been told that i have been a real trooper, however, there have been some days that i made plans to do and then i just couldnt do them... i felt so bad canceling the plans last minute...

Re: 1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

I had a house booked On Long Beach Island, New Jersey for when I was going to be 34 weeks. My Doctors said no. I was sooooo upset. I am having a healthy pregnancy, but I guess you never now.

At 34 weeks, I decided to stay on Long Island. Maybe Montauk or the Hamptons.

Every Doctor is different, so def ask.

Ditto. My shower was when I was 32 weeks and I was uncomfortable sitting through it and was exhausted when I got home.

DH and I am going to Newport RI in 2 weeks, and will be 32 1/2 weeks pregnant w. my second baby (our son is staying w. my parents) :). I figure i will do as much or as little as I want to do, honestly I may spend the whole day sitting by the pool and getting some (soon-to-be-rare) quiet time. I say go for it, the car ride is nothing and its nice to get away. Of course it may be different since I already have one, so I am so busy running around etc. that this trip will be really relaxing for me.

Re: 1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

First of all, I LOVE NEWPORT RI. I must start with that. It's a lovely relaxing trip.

I can't say what you should. I am a nervous nellie so for me, I would be too nervous to do it. But that doesn't mean that's a valid thing for me to feel and advise you on. It's a personal choice that only you can decide on. Have you spoken to your dr about this? Maybe he/she can help you decide if it's right for your situation, if you feel up to it.

But if you are asking my opinion on Newport, I strongly recommend!!!!!! You must take a tour of the Mansions. They have really nice trolley tours that you can hop on. Everything is in walking distance. It's a great trip for a pg lady!

Thanks for your thoughts girls. Other than swollen feet/ankles, I'm feeling good now... but I'm only 24 weeks. I wish I knew how I was going to feel in 10 more weeks!! Chat Icon I have a doctor's appt on 7/14 so I will ask him what he suggests.

Montauk is also an option since DH has never been there and always wanted to go but isn't it kind of dead in Sept?

Re: 1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

i am almost 31 weeks now, and i would definitely have no problems with a car trip that long, as long as we were able to make frequent stops.

the walking around might be an issue, but honestly i still feel really good - walking isn't a problem, standing still is! Chat Icon

no idea how i will feel in 3 weeks though...

Re: 1st Anniv Trip/Babymoon @ 34 Weeks?

I went to Cape Cod at 34 weeks
We just stopped every hour while driving
We took the ferry over to Conn so it saved some driving.

We walked around the town during the day and usually after lunch went back to the room to rest. I put my feet up and took a nap and DH read and watched TV. I had hardly any swelling problems at all! The doc told me it was ok - just to make sure I drank alot of water - which I did!
