Art Ideas 2nd & 3rd Grade
I have to make my own Art curriculum and teach it once a week so does anyone have any good ideas they would like to share?

read the color of us by karen katz and make a handprint color wheel w/paint that matches the skintone of students - use 1 color that fits all of the handprints so that kids can see even though we look different, at the core we're made up of the same parts

what about an artist study? i know the art teachers I have worked with usually do that. Pick an artist and teach one of the techniques that they did.

I am also teaching art and don't have a set curriculum. I have been getting ideas from http://www.lessonplanspage.com/Art.htm
and it has been really helpful

If you still need help, I could point you in the right direction.
As an art educator, I would suggest your lessons during the year fall within the four New York State Art Standards (including learning about artists/Art history/Cultural Dimensions and Contributions
(http://www.nysata.org/nystandards.php)
I find it so sad that the state does not mandate an art specialist on the elementary level. One day a bill will pass!

Thanks ladies! I'm going to start focusing on creating my art curriculum in 2 weeks because I have a few things I want them to make already its just really hard to think of something I really have no background or experience in, unless you count my love for coloring in coloring books

You might want to get some of the Dover coloring books that are blackline coloring pages of artists' works. Your students would love them!
