consultant salary??
There is a slight chance I may have an opportunity to do some consulting work part time at my old company (its a project manager position)..im hoping if it goes through they will tell me per hour how much $$, but if not can anyone share a range of how much is appropriate..when i look online it seems very high the rate..tia

figure out what you used to make an hour when you worked there
I would use that as a starting point and reference to see if what they offer you is fair

But add in the benefits you're no longer getting into the hourly wage (health care, etc.)
Consulting positions are generally more per hour than your full time salary was because you don't get any benefits.

I don't know what a good hourly rate would be for your position but I agree with the previous posters. I use a consultant for a position that I used to pay a part time employee for. His hourly rate is high but I am still spending less. Experience helps, too. Employers don't mind a high rate if you are not padding the bill and you can get the job done in less time. What's nice is that consulting can become a great word of mouth business if you have time to consult for more than one company.
