EYES: Blocked Tear Duct -- anyone's DC have/had this?
My son's (8 months Sunday) eyes are always teary, they said they would clear up by 1 year, I think it has, but they're sending me to go see an Ophthalmologist.
Did your DC's condition go way on its own?
What Dr. (ophthalmologist) did you use? My pediatrician gave me 3 recomendations: 1-Dr. Lichtenstein (Fresh Meadows) 2-Dr. Pinchoff/Dr. Strome (Great Neck) 3-Dr. Rubin
What was the procdure done to clear the eye?
I don't know too much about this condition, what questions should I ask? Where can I found more information on this.
And any other helpful information you would like to share. If you feel more comfortable you can FM me if you like.
Many thanks,

I'm not sure how much help this will be but my niece had a blocked tear duct for a while. They would apply warm cloths to the bridge of her nose/eye area and use a bulb to suck the nose clean after or durring. It eventually cleard up.

Re: EYES: Blocked Tear Duct -- anyone's DC have/had this?
Alex's blocked tear duct lasted until she was 2, so at that point, the opthalmologist we were seeing (we live in the Philly area) recommended an eye stent. They put her under general anesthesia and inserted a little tube in her tear duct to clear it out. It was supposed to remain there for 6 months, but popped out 2 weeks later, which is apparently very rare. Even just being in there for 2 weeks, it remedied it completely and she hasn't had an issue since.
Blocked tear ducts generally go away by 1 year old - use drops when you can, and massage the ducts a few times a day. If it continues past a year, I would ask the opthalymologist what he recommends.

DS had a blocked tear duct early on, but it went away by 1 or 2 months, I don't remember now, so we never went to an opthalmologist.
I think I just wiped off his eye with a warm washcloth, I don't remember doing anything else for it.

DS had a blocked tear duct from birth until 1 year. He does see an opthalmologist but for another reason. The opt said the blockage would probably go away on its own and luckily it did.

Re: EYES: Blocked Tear Duct -- anyone's DC have/had this?
my DD had this when she was only a few weeks old and her Ped gave me eye drops and told me to put warm compress on the area by the bridge of her nose & the beginning of her eye. And to also massage that area every so often. It cleared up in no time.

mine had it from birth-2 months
we cleaned his tear ducts with a wet cotton ball and applied a prescription cream to the ducts twice a day. we also massaged them several times a day. it went away pretty quickly.

DD had an infected blocked tear duct that we had to put drops in. It was pretty much always infected. It went away by 3 1/2 months though. Now when she gets a cold or its cold out, the same eye gets teary very quickly. Shes a year old.

Have you been massaging it to clear up the clog? They won't just clear up on their own.

Re: EYES: Blocked Tear Duct -- anyone's DC have/had this?
The ped kept telling me this was DS's problem.....he ALWAYS had gook in his right eye.
I kept questioning it because it was insane amounts of c r a p
FINALLY someone listened that it might not be that. And some antibiotic eye drops cleared it up.

Re: EYES: Blocked Tear Duct -- anyone's DC have/had this?
All three of my dc's had this. My two girls' eyes cleared up on it's own. My son had to have surgery at a year to unclog both of them. We went to Dr. Pinchoff and he was amazing. i highly recommend him.

How do the warm compress? I don't think I could just leave it on him, or can I?
