spinoff of my own question: when will you/did you tell your boss?
i dont know when will be the right time to tell my bosses.
theyre going to FLIP.
i work as an assistant in a tattoo shop with hopes to apprentice sooner than later. its becoming obvious my apprenticeship should be coming pretty soon. (im wondering if theyre wating til the 1 year anniversary in march)
anyway, im now worried they wont apprentice me. or wont let me come back after since theyll have to train someone new.
i just dont know what to do about it.
i work a million hours a week for no money, no benefits just because i want to apprentice so bad and am "proving" myself.
one of the bosses hates my BF (but he hates everything about me and my life choices--hes only 1 year older than me) and always makes jokes about me "getting knocked up and fired"
im just really scared about it, its my biggest concern to be honest.
any and all advice is welcome and appreciated. tia

I'm not sure what the law is like in the US, but here in the UK, you don't have to tell your employer until you're about 24 weeks along.
Here's a link to a good article on Baby Center. You should check out the Pregnancy Discrimination act - it's illegal for them to fire you just because you're pregnant.
Also, you may want to evaulate your work situation - are you working with any dangerous chemicals and/or situations that might be harmful to the baby?
Good luck
ETA: I told my boss, the rest of the team and our HR person after we had our 12 week sono last week. Will probably hold off telling the entire rest of the company for a little bit, although with Facebook I'm sure it's only a matter of time before everyone knows!

I don't think there is a law on when you are supposed to tell, but I think most people do it around 12 weeks or so. I could be wrong though.

!
Yes, it is illegal to fire someone while pregnant, but to be honest (and I was fired when I was 38 weeks pregnant) it is very hard to prove that this is why you were fired. It totally sucks, but its the truth

It is mandatory for me to report to my command here as soon as I know. Given the nature of my job and the physical demands I would have either had to put myself at risk or say something.

I told at 12 weeks. JMO, you're too early to tell your job.

My boss knew immediately especially since we went through IVF. I had to be very open with them bc I was missing 1/2 the day with appointments & they were weekly.

I am pretty sure in NY you have to tell them by 12 weeks. I am not sure that they will let you apprentice while PG to be honest. You also should talk to your Dr about the heightened risks with your job (even just sitting hunched in a chair tattooing) and how it can affect your PG.

I will be 11 weeks tomorrow and I just told my boss today. It is hard to get him alone and it was just the 2 of us in the office early this morning. He seemed happy for me. I told him that I had to come back ASAP because I don't get paid maternity leave and I really need this job!

I told my boss at 10 weeks. Good luck. It sounds like you're in a tough situation.

Re: spinoff of my own question: when will you/did you tell your boss?
My boss is my dad so he knew 5 minutes after I peed on the stick
In your case- I would wait until you're at least 12 weeks. And I wouldn't tell the obnoxious boss either.

Re: spinoff of my own question: when will you/did you tell your boss?
I told my boss about 8 wks.
I was verrrrrry sick, and there was really no hiding it. They probably would've thought i was bulimic had I not specified that it was morning/alllllll dayyyy sickness.
