Allergic Reaction?

OK, so I am obviously having some type of allergic reaction to something.

My fingers are getting swollen and itchy. The bottom of my foot has a lump when I walk that I can feel and is also getting itchy.

I haven't eaten anything abnormal today. In fact, I started getting these symptoms before I ate anything at all.

Anyone ever have an allergic reaction like this before? DH just ran out (we are both working from home today) and got me some benedryl. Hopefully I can stay awake and the swelling will go down!

It is so strange. I have not done anything different that I can think of to cause the reaction.

I took Benedryl yesterday and things got better, although it took almost all day for the swelling in my fingers to go down.

Now today, I have random spots of hives. One on my thumb, some on my feet. So weird. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Allergic Reaction?

Have you had a cold recently?

Last year DH borke out in major hives, but had done nothing new to be allergic too. His sister (a doctor) said it was probably a post viral syndrome. That your immune system can like overdrive.

I think I constantly have a cold! Chat Icon DS has had a runny nose since he started daycare in Sept, so I tend to have one on and off.

We'll just see how long it lasts before I go to a doctor. This morning about 45 minutes after I got up I got some more hives (on my butt Chat Icon ... sorry TMI) So I immediately popped a Benedryl. It's 3 days now, so we'll see how much longer it lasts!

what's causing concern in my head is that the hives are in differing places....it suggests that it is something environmental....

it can't hurt to call the doc - talk to him/her about it - see what they suggest. You could just have to go in for a quick steroid shot....

Re: Allergic Reaction?

I often get reactions like that, especially since being prego. I'm allergic to yellow dye #5 which is in a lot of foods & I usually just get the swollen tongue/lip, but since being prego, the littlest bit would lead to swollen foot on the bottom that was swollen/itchy or swollen eye/lip or really weird but I'd get raised skin that was swollen/warm on my stomach/side/butt/thighs....WEIRD.

I too would take Benedryl but it seemed to take forever to have any effect.

Yeah, weird is right! Today is day #5 of the itchies! If I am still getting them next week, I will call my doctor!
