Spinal Stenosis...
My dad was just diagnosed with this. He is in so much pain. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of it and/or had any experience dealing with it. I am just looking for some info I guess.

Re: Spinal Stenosis...
My mother's sister has it. It's a narrowing of your spine. It took them many years to diagnose her with it (first thought it was arthritis, and then a lot of other things).
After years of having lots of trouble walking, she had some pretty big surgery for it last year - they took part of her hip bone and used it to mend or replace (not sure?) parts of her back. The recovery wasn't too bad considering that she was 59 years old, and it made her a little better. Not sure if she would do it again, if she had the chance to go back in time. She walks a little better now but still needs a cane if she's going more than one city block.
Hope your dad's isn't as severe.

Re: Spinal Stenosis...
Thanks!!!! We are lucky that we just found out about it, because it is not as severe as it could be I am sure. He is seeing a neurosurgeon soon to discuss options. He is in a LOT of pain and he is on some pretty heavy duty pain meds. Hopefull the neuro surgeon can fix it for him.
His is caused by osteo arthritis, he has had neck and back pain as far back as I can remember. Unfortunately it is hereditary, I have so much back trouble and my neck hurts all the time. I am going to talk to my doc next time about it.
I am scared for my mom and him too, he is going to be out of work for a while it sounds like.

Hope your dad's isn't as severe. one of DHs uncles has it. He also had the surgery and in addition had some screws implanted to help maintain mobility. He had it for a LONG time before seeking medical help foir it. I think there are other avenues with early diagnosis and treatment.

Re: Spinal Stenosis...
My mom was just diagnosed with this last year, she was in ALOT of pain. She gets some shots to the area a few times a year and that helps, but insurance only covers 3-4 a year, so I don't know if this is a long term solution.
