What is the smell!!
I have a 2 y/o front load GE washer thank stinks like mildew. I leave the door open after wash to allow to dry....so it's not that. I have washed with bleach on sanitize mode. no good. i have washed numerous times with vinegat, baking soda and lemon juice. no good. i bought these special tablets for cleaning out washing machines. borax maybe? no good. could it be our running water is just smelly? what do you suggest? i am planning to have the water company come out to check, but thought I would see if any other's have had this prob. we bought the washer right when we moved here, so I don't know if prev owners had same problem

Is the water sitting on the rubber where the door closes? I've notice water sitting there, and now I dry it up bc it started to smell a bit.

Yep that is probably it. My parents have the same problem they have to leave the door open to airate it. You can run a cycle of amonia in it and scrub it down and wipe it down.

When my wash is done, I always check to see if a stray sock hasn't gotten caught between the rubber and the machine. If left in there, that would get really stinky

Re: What is the smell!!
nope, done all that. i even have paper towels in the drawer (pedestal) and I dry out the machine, leave door open and dry under that plastic piece in front. I've, done every liquid from ammonia, bleach, vinegar, all natural Bac-out live enzyme cultures odor eliminator. You name it. I spoke with water authority today...they said they get so many of these calls. They rec calling a plumber in. Which I will have coming in next week. They said the intake pipe may have a build up. I don't care what it is, I just want it gone. To tell you the truth, I think it is the front load. I have talked to so many who have probs with them. Thanks so much for advice.
