moms of 2 or more close in age

If you were nursing your first while pregnant with your second, did your milk supply last? Any tips for keeping up your supply? Im really worried that I am going to lose my supply. Especially in my right boob, because that one always produced less snd seems to be producing even less now. I havent given DC any formula yet and dont want to. i wanted to nurse her til she was 1.

Also, if I am able to keep up my supply, would it be better to stop nursing DC at 1 so i can just nurse the newborn, or to tandem nurse? DC will be 13-14mths when the DC#2 arrives.

Re: moms of 2 or more close in age

I got pg with #2 when #1 was almost 8 months old. I was able to successfully nurse #1 until she was almost a year. I finally stopped because it was just getting too uncomfortable with the belly and my nipples were more WAY more sensitive. I didn't notice a dip in my supply other than the fact the #1 was nursing less because she was eating more solids.

Keep in mind that after delivery your milk will turn to colostrum for the baby. My doctor's told me if I was to tandem nurse that I should always let the baby nurse first before the older child.

That said, I had absolutely no desire to tandem nurse, even though my OB and pediatrician were all for it.

I got PG when DS was about 10 months. I continued to nurse until about 2 wks ago.

I chose to stop b/c 1) I personally do not want to tandem nurse and don't want DS confused when the new baby is nursing
2) my supply was def. dipping
3) after 4 months of nursing PG, I was just done

Most say, your milk might dry up ca. 5 months into pregnancy at which point your first may self-wean.

Good luck and feel free to FM me with questions!

I became pregnant with DC #3 while still nursing DS#2 (he was 8 months old). I really tried to continue nursing and did so for a month more. You can absolutely continue nursing. My milk supply was still there but I personally felt so so sick and had to stop,it was taking too much out of me. There is a lot of literature online about it. Good luck. I wish I could have continued.
