my boss is giving me a hard time about mat leave. I knew this would happen...
so today we were discussing time off (a subject that my boss hates) and my mat. leave and I told her I was taking the full 12 weeks I was entitled too. She got mad and went off saying how it was the busiest time of year and that we were probably going to lose the business- making threats and such i stood my ground saying that there was no way i was coming back in 6 weeks like she hoped... how horrible is that.

If your boss is giving you a hard time about leave in general and then a doubly hard time about mat leave, I would report her to HR. All employees are entitled to time off!

Not sure how big your firm is, but if she makes an issue of it go to HR.
How often do people have babies? 2 or 3 times in their life? You should take the time you want because you don't get the chance again.

I would take this up with HR, that's what they are there for.

My HR told me to tell them if anyone gives me any problems at all. They said it is between me and HR and everyone else has to deal with it!

How big is your company? If over 50, they are required, by law, to give you 12 weeks, and for her to harass you about it could be considered pregnancy discrimination. I would report it to HR - she needs to watch herself!

I work for a huge publicaly traded co. so I def am entitled to my 12 weeks, which is why I stood my ground. I kinda wish I could report her but it would come back to bite me somehow Im sure. She would make my life miserable somehow if I ever tried to do that.

Would she let you work from home part of the time so you could make cash if you wanted?

Is this the FMLA 12 week leave? What's great about that is that you don't have to worry about not having job protection. They can change your position I believe but you are guaraunteed to have some kind of position at that same company when you return.
I can't believe your boss is acting that way, does she know how much trouble she can get into if you do report her to HR? If she continues I would simply say to her if you have concerns about what I am entitled to or unsure about what I am entitled to lets get HR involved so we are all on the same page. It's not a threat but she has no right talking to you like that. Can you speak to someone in HR on a confidential level anyway just so you can have proof of the pressue she is putting on you? You need to make them aware so that if she does decide to write you off because you took the full 12 weeks they will know why and fire her A**

First.....your boss is a selfish asssshole! I would think about documenting this with hr in case your boss tries to nail you for some negative reason becuase she resents you for taking time off. She sounds like the type.

ITA - make sure everything is documented. I've been in this type of situation and I regret not having any documentation of the conversations.
I'm sorry your boss is being a jerk

we had an issue with this at my work. Bosses pressuring women to put in for the leave and calling them at home about it. The Bosses got scolded big time b/c it is actually something you can sue them over. It it a part of NYS law!
