People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks?
Just curious if anyone read this? I just finished it & really liked it.
It's like the Red Violin of the Sarajevo Haggadah. It told the amazing (ficitious) journey of a rare manuscript that survived 500+years & was found in war-town Sarajevo, along with the people who were responsbile for saving it (Muslims, Nazi officers, etc).
It's based on historical events with some fiction thrown in.
Here is some info on the actual Sarajevo Haggadah: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarajevo_Haggadah

I really hope that my book club chooses it for July- the other choices were March (also by Brooks) and two other fluffier reads. So far March is winning but this one sounds really good so I may read it anyway.

It is somewhat predictable and has a love story thrown in for no reason (i think), but otherwise the historical aspect was really interesting.

I went to a Scholastic warehouse sale yesterday and got the hardcover for $10!
