Facebook - Questions from Newbie
Let me start by saying...please do not laugh at me.....
I have not signed up to Facebook yet.
Can you please tell me something about it? Can you limit how much personal information you enter? Can you search for people by name? What if you find someone that you want to contact..how do you contact them? What if someone contacts you and you don't want to respond to them?
TIA

Re: Facebook - Questions from Newbie
lol i'm a facebook junkie. i still have a few friends who are holdouts that don't want to sign up so you arent alone
at first its very confusing. there are things called 'applications' that at first i had no clue what that was. they are different things you can put on your profile page, like gifts (virtual), hugs, drinks. you choose what info you want on there ie birthday (i only have the month and day not year), marital status, location, employer, schools etc. you can also join groups which i love to do (high school alumni, favorite hangouts, causes, events, politics).
you can search people by name. they can search for you by name. also be aware that your name will pop up on a google search once you join.
you can restrict access to your page by only allowing friends to see your page. you can post photos and people can post photos of you as well; i have an issue with the photos because once someone 'tags' you in a picture, anyone who you are friends with can see that whole photo album, even if they arent friends with whoever put the album on there. so beware of that.
if you find someone you want to 'befriend', you will see the option to 'request friend' and it gives you a chance to also send a personal message along with the request. i like to send a message to someone i'm friending, i think its polite. especially if you've changed your name and dont have a picture and they dont know who u are.
i've had former boyfriends/semi friends/strangers try to friend me and i just hit ignore and thats the end of it. i think there's something on there that says 'report abuse' or something if they dont stop.
sorry if that was too much. hope it helps have fun!

When you go to www.facebook.com, there is a box for "Full Name". What did you enter when you signed up?

Re: Facebook - Questions from Newbie
How do you get your maiden name to show too? I entered it in the box but it says it's only for search results
