You shouldn't have to apologize or say that you're not attacking in your post. The ridiculous comments that were made SHOULD be judged because they were plain immature and idiotic. The previous poster should be apologizing, NOT you.l
As a mom that has to drive her child 20 minutes from home on the SSP I absolutely agree that you should not be apologizing.
i 100% agree! you have NOTHING to apologize for--NOTHING!! you want to keep your baby safe, as all (well...most) of us do and you shouldn't have to make excuses for morons on the road.
BTW...the SSP has to be the most dangerous road i have ever driven.

I mean even riding in the right lane, which I don't like doing since people are going on and off the parkway and don't look then either, I see aggressiveness. I think those defensive driving classes are not worth anything anymore. You can't be defensive...you will die trying
I have always driven carefully, or tried to, sign or not...
When I think about how fragile my body is, I could not imagine flinging it doing 80+ at another driver cause I'm late. Work can wait 5 minutes...or 2 minutes.
Drive carefully everyone.

I will confess that I am a more agressive driver around baby on board cars . Mainly becuase I think it's a bit of an insult (sort of like saying that all the cars normally drive erratically with a disregard for others welfare, but becuase there's a baby in the car, I should now take notice and 'behave').
Hate to say it, I know a lot of people who think like me... so I never had a baby on board sign.
It's not necessary anyway. all drivers would see the sun shade on the window......
i really hope you are kidding - but even then, it's not even remotely funny. that is, hands down, the most idiotic thing i have ever read. and also the most maddening.
to the OP - i will be honest and say that i rarely even notice those signs because typically, people place them in their side windows (as an alert to paramedics) as opposed to their rear windows, which i would see while driving. but if i did see one, i would drive the same way i always do - which is defensively and respectfully.
it's sad that drivers out there are so aggressive and selfish that you (and others) feel the need to put up that kind of sign.

What??? WHAT??? I cannot be reading this correctly. Are you for real?
To the OP: No, I do not have any signs. My mini-van is sign enough Besides, I am a paranoid freak about predators, and announcing that I have kids in my car sort of scares me. Besides, if there ARE really people out there who drive MORE aggressively around cars with "Baby on Board" signs, all the MORE reason for me to NOT have one.
WannaBeamom: Seriously? You drive MORE aggressively???? Do you do this with your OWN children in the car??? ?

Am I the only person who is *extra* careful around cars with these signs?
I AM!
If they happen to be going slow or the speed limit (i'll admit it, i drive fast)... then i excuse them for it because of the sign. I get it. I'm a mom. I get it and respect their space.
me too. i'm extra careful when i see the sign and i yell at DH if he's too close or too fast near car with the sign.

I rarely notice these signs on cars but I do happen to have one on my car and I sure hope that someone wouldn't drive more agressively just because I do have this sign! I am not an agressive driver, even more so now that I have a baby. I really haven't noticed any difference and the above statement shows that people just don't care.

I don't think people pay much attention to them. Plus, I dont see them on cars all that often anymore. If I do see one on the rare occassion, I am careful. But, I tend to believe I am always a careful driver.
For me, I dont have one b/c I work with kids who have committed sexual crimes against other children. With that being said, I am hypervigilant about "announcing" that I have my child in my car. I also don't have those "tot inside" stickers on my house for the same reason.

I def. think it works. I feel like people tailgate much less and are more cautious, but only during the day. You can't see my sign at night time bc the windows are tinted. I am very cautious when I see a sign bc I have a large SUV that could potentially cause a lot of damage
Who in their right mind would drive more aggressively That is absurd and doesn't even make sense. Thank goodness I have never experienced this with my baby on board sign

OK, people, let me clarify. I definitely phrased this the wrong way. I'm not some wierd person trying to mow down a family, obviously. hopefully, after a few thousand posts, you know me better than that.
I am a very good driver, with an extremely good record. Not to mention I wouldn't harm a fly. I also don't have road rage issues.
BUT, I will maintain that signs like baby on board aggravate me. I AM a vigilant driver. I REFUSE to value the lives in one car over another becuase the family posted a sign. I also don't value a childs life more than an adults. (ie. I don't drive wrecklessly just becuase someone DOESN'T have a baby on board)
It is very presumptuous to me that someone posts a sign like that. Becuase it implies that the lives in that car are more important than the others... or at least so thinks the people in that car.
I am not the only person who thinks that way about those signs.
So to clarify, I don't really drive aggressively around those cars, but I am rather annoyed by the people inside of them. And I don't think people should drive more carefully around my car just becuase my baby is inside. I'd hope the other drivers value my life too.
Any one who thinks differently than me, fine. but I really find it obnoxious that parents think a family should be valued more than a couple of good friends in a car, an elderly couple, or a single person. It's selfish and skewed ethically.

There's a George Carlin joke that's similar to what you said and I'm HOPING you were just attempting to be funny.
To the OP, I sadly don't think the signs make a difference. People drive like lunatics. In fact, in a recent study involving all the US states, NY drivers came up #1 as the UNSAFEST drivers, so it's especially bad around here.

Okay........I'm off topic but the baby said "Bless You" at 10 weeks???!!! No way!! That's not even developmentally possible!!
As a speech-language pathologist I would have to agree...not possible.
as for this comment, I've been especially careful to NOT mention any cognitive development milestones of my son after everyone completely criticized me for admitting I got DS on tape mimicking a few words. I've also been careful to not comment on the hypocrisy on this board.... that a mom can say their kid sits up at a few months old, or rolls over right out of the womb and everyone applauds... yet for me, I get flamed. I didn't claim the moon and the stars, I merely mentioned something anecdotal.
so continue... flame away. any other gripes about me over the last couple years? something from LIW?

I have no intention of getting into a fender bender with adults either. Besides, you're presuming all adults are healthy and without injuries. My BFF would be SERIOUSLY injured by a mere fender bender becuase of a prior back injury. I cannot increase my vigilence beyond what it is already.

I *sorta* see what you're trying to say however, I don't really see getting aggravated or annoyed about someone who has a little sign in their car. I don't think the implication is the world should value the lives of the people in that car over another but more to just bring attention to the fact that a tiny baby is in the car and hey..........99% of people probably will ignore it but maybe you'll have that one person who backs off or slows down and that's one less person to worry about on the road.

I agree.
I actually think they're ridiculous. If anything, I don't want to openly advertise that I have the baby in the car with me. There are too many wackos out there, and why invite prying eyes? They may be able to see the car seat through the window, but by seeing the sign they KNOW I have a baby in the car.
I don't know...I don't see the point of them at all.

I was a mom that posted my 2 month old could sit for short periods, I posted pictures to prove it and you still say rude comments, you seem to bring this up every time it is brought up that you say your son could talk. You say you have proof, then post it and maybe some people might believe you. I am sure everyone here would be happy to see your video and be proved wrong.
BTW, being strong is totally different then verbal milestones, babies are constantly working out in the womb and from birth.

sorry to the OP for taking over your thread
I didn't mean to single you out just now honestly. If you noticed, I did not mention a specific age... Also, it's not "every time my son speaking is brought up". It was ONE THREAD about a half a year ago. so there is no "every time".
There are so many posts of kids doing extraordinary things very early on this board. There's strength, and then there's proprioception. The cerebellum is also developing, right along with the visual, language, auditory centers of the brain. A baby's brain does not yet know how the limbs move. It's not merely strength. It requires a lot of neuronal coordination. There are numerous speech pathologists on LIF, but few neurologists / neurobiologists... so no one can basically back me up.
I'm not posting the video... 1) becuase it's a video (not even sure how to post that) and more importantly 2) becuase I refuse to share a video of my son out of spite. I will not let the public scrutinize him. I only share video and pics out of love for him.
I have been careful to not revive this topic over the last 6+ months. thanks to the OP, it's now alive and well, once again. thanks a bunch I've also been careful to not mention ANY cognitive dev't of my son, out of fears someone else would criticize me. Sort of sad, really.

I was one of the SLPs who shared info on that thread about speech/language milestones. What you initially described in that "post of yore" was NOT mimicking. You stated your son knew to call his grandmother the Polish word for grandmother as well as to say his own name. That is language development beyond anything a 10 week old would be capable of doing.
The ability to mimic sounds is an entirely different skill and is purely motor speech. I never refuted a claim for a baby to mimic sounds. I do believe it's highly unlikely for a baby to coordinate that many speech movements- but I also know that some babies are highly advanced.
My second child started rolling at 10 weeks. It wasn't done due to a want to roll over- she would root toward the sheet touching her cheek and her body would follow. It was a reflex, not an intentional act. I'm not sure how much proprioception is needed for a gross motor skill- but there is ridiculous amounts of it needed for fine motor tasks like speech sound coordination.
Sorry you feel like you can't share developmental milestones on here. I'm assuming I was one of the ones who you felt attacked by and for that I am sorry because it really wasn't my intention.
ETA: In regards to your post about aggressive driving- I understood what you meant and figured it was a really poor choice of words. Glad you clarified that you're not really a *mad scientist* looking to mow down all the soccer moms.

I am not sure I am understanding you correctly! But you are driving more "aggressively" BECAUSE someone has this sign. WHY? Obviously there is a child on board. And being more agressive will teach them a lesson or something like that?
I am completely shocked a mom would actually feel this way and may purposely endanger the passengers of car with such sign WITH a child on board.
I hope I am misunderstanding!
Wow I never thought I was insulting someone when I put the sign up on my window I just don't get your response at all.....
To me if I made one person stop tailgating me with it it up then it's well worth it. My life in is my backseat......

I personally don't see the signs that way and it has never crossed my mind that the people that put them on their cars feel that way.
I equate it to the fireman signs that people post in their windows to let firefighters know that there is a child inside and that child MIGHT need more help getting out safely then the child's adult counterpart. I see the signs as a notice that there is a child, that can't help themselves inside the car and that the sign gives public notice.
Do the little florenscent green people that people place at the end of the driveway that say "Slow Children at Play" bother you too? I just see the signs as precautionary, not a statement of someone's life being more valuable.

Re: "Baby on Board!" signs...do they really work?
Wow!
Ok, first off, I have a Baby on Board sign, and for me, I would hope that the people driving around me would be more cautious knowing that there is a child on board. I know that when I see those signs (or the little people signs on the back of minivans I am always more cautious) Call me naive, but I like to see the good in people that way and think that someone will not ride up my azz BECAUSE I have a Baby On Board sign.
That in no way means that my life, or my sons life is more important than the driver next to me. That is a way for me to hopefully get in the heads of the aggressive drivers (apparently some on this board) to just be slightly more careful around me. I know no one wants to get into an accident with a child in the car - so if I can use that as an extra step to protect my son then I will. I had two sunshades up at one point because I wanted people on BOTH sides of me to be more cautious if possible. Good thing those came down otherwise it looks like I would get run off the road!
I really won't even take the time to go on and comment on the nonsense of getting mad when seeing these signs, or driving MORE aggressively. This type of thinking is what makes the world a scary place to live in honestly.

Do the little florenscent green people that people place at the end of the driveway that say "Slow Children at Play" bother you too? I just see the signs as precautionary, not a statement of someone's life being more valuable.

OK, I am completely blown away by that poster....but to the OP......I have a bumper sticker in my back windshield that says: "DO YOU FOLLOW JESUS THIS CLOSE?"
I kid you not -- I have ALOT LESS tailgaters!! Down here in NC, tailgaters and aggressive driving is the norm, so every little bit helps.....
