Already frustrated w/ my new principal...
So, I got transferred to a different school for the upcoming year. That's not the problem at all...I'm actually thrilled about it because the school is right around the block from my house.
I met w/ my new principal and told her that I would like to be considered for an upper-grade position, since I've learned that primary grades are just not for me. I taught Kindergarten...hated every second of it, and have no desire to go back.
She basically told me that I'm certified K-6 and she'll put me wherever she wants to. She also said that since I seem "bubbly", she feels I would make an excellent primary teacher. She knows me for 5 minutes, but ok...
We start school on 8/18. She still has not told me which grade I will be teaching. I am totally flipping out, because I hate not being able to start preparing for next year. If she gives me 5th, that's great because I taught 5th last year.
But come on...if you're gonna give me a different grade, a little notice would be AWESOME!

Re: Already frustrated w/ my new principal...
That's crazy. First, I would think she would want to put you at a grade level where you would be happy...not one that you told her would make you miserable. And to not tell you what you would be teaching and you start in a month??? That's just unprofessional. I hope everything works out for you.

Re: Already frustrated w/ my new principal...
I agree with you on timing of finding out your grade- especially if you need to get new materials etc.
I am in the same situation as you with my principal- she is power-hungry and even when asked to do something because of a common sense reason, she just ignores it and does what she wants. She flip flops on what she says- it's just not good to have a leader like that.
ETA- contractually speaking for us, we can be moved to another class/grade up until Sept 1st- our technical first day of work.
Do you have that language in your contract- if so, she legally doesn't have to tell you until the day you are due for work ( not that I agree with that however)

Re: Already frustrated w/ my new principal...
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this frustration! It's hard enough dealing with the anxiety of having to go back in a month.....
I at very least hope she does you the courtesy of letting you know soon so you can start buying things to decorate your classroom! Preparing... that's important... but you can always get caught up on that during the year, just as long as you're a few weeks ahead of the kids (my opinion anyway) .. but preparing the classroom and being mentally prepared for the grade is work in itself!

We don't have a contract...or a union. Welcome to teaching in NC
