Stripping Membranes

Anyone had this done?

Painful? ( you can give it to me straight!!)

Did it work?

How did you feel afterwards?

Did you go into labor and how soon after?

I am over 40 weeks and basically have the option to try to get things stirred up tomorrow by getting my membranes stripped OR I can be induced -any thoughts?

Thanks SO muchChat Icon

mine got stripped a day after my due date- had hannah that nite

got stripped day before my due date with emerson- had her that nite.

to me, it cant hurt to do it- if the baby is READY, it will help and she will come.... if the baby isnt ready, it isnt going to do anything to help, so it cant hurt ya know......

honestly, it hurts- what he does is puts two fingers, and separates the sac from being connected to the cervix (im pretty sure).... and it hurts- but only for a second, like an ear piercing or something......

but hey, it helped....if you want to meet your baby, i say go for it......

It is uncomfortable, but only momentarily. And it worked for me. I went into labor just about 20 hours later.

Re: Stripping Membranes

Yes, it was painful. I have a high threshold for pain and it made tear up.

For me, it did nothing. My doctor hoped it would cause me to go in labor on my own. Instead, I was induced a week later.

I was sore afterwards and I had some bleeding which went away in a few hours.

I would go with the induction. I was induced and I delivered vaginally. Good luck!!

It certainly was uncomfortable, and I would describe it as being quite violent, but then again, so is childbirth. It did nothing fo me, I still had to be induced.
