Gender selection???
OK, so Im the really horrible mom who actually wants a certain gender :( My question(s) are...
1) Does anyone know where to go for this (I know fert. clin.) but do I have to call Gyno first?
2) How much is it to do this?
3) Does anyone know of anyone who actually did this?
4) What do you all think?
Flame Away...................

Re: Gender selection???
I didn't even know you could do that. Am I really out of the loop? I have heard of using certain positions, and BD on certain days to try for a certain sex. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

No flames - just before I answered I wanted to make sure this wasn't some weirdo...
Honestly, since there are such thing as "designer babies" developed to help siblings with diseases (be donors) I'm sure gender comes into that.
But:
A. No doctor in his/her right mind would do it simply out of desire for a specific gender... yet
B. You may find a doctor who had a price, but would you trust that doctor with developing a specific life?
C. Do you need fertility treatments, or are you able to conceive naturally but won't for fear of getting the wrong gender? If its the latter, it goes into all sorts of ethics issues (see B)
D. Do you have kids yet? I always wanted a girl, thought I could never mother a boy, and I was shocked at how perfect this was....

I understand why you werent sure at first. I am not proud of myself for even thinking this way. I do already have one gender & would like the other this time around. I know I am not alone in this feeling. I am just inquiring about if its even possible. I thought there was such a thing as sperm spinning & its something like $15 grand. I was wondering if anyone on here actually knows someone who did this.

Re: Gender selection???
My concern for you would be how you would handle it if it did NOT work out to be the gender you want. Are you prepared to deal with that disappointment?
I'm not flaming, just making a point. This is a baby you plan on bringing into the world. You need to be prepared for how you will handle it if it doesn't work out how you expect. If there are doctors who do have a way of helping you with this, I doubt it's 100% guaranteed.

Re: Gender selection???
They actually do do this....They take all the x or y out and only insert the gender sperm you want. But here is the kicker you pay so much for this what if it doesn't take. I know my aunt couldn't carry a boy she had three miscarriages because her body had to much acidity. She also has 6 girls. I have no idea where you would go though. Good Luck. I hope you get what you want.

I am prepared for that...I will love he/she either way of course. I just would want to try. I would however be horrified at all the money I spent if it didnt work. I would want a place that said 99.9% accuracy.

Gender selection is unethical and Doctors will NOT do it. The ONLY time one can "select a gender" and "spin out the X or Y chromosomes" is when there is a high risk for a terrible gender-linked birth defect.

Re: Gender selection???
My friend looked into this because she really wanted a girl.
There is a clinic in Conneticut that does gender selection. She said it was very $$$$$$$$$$.

I'll keep my .02 to myself on this topic, but serioulsy....I would have to say no ethical doctor in their right mind would do this.

Re: Gender selection???
I will not flame because everyone is entitled to feeling the way they feel. I do believe that you will love your child regardless of the sex and sometimes, like lipglossjunky said, you get the opposite of what you want and it turns out to be the best gift.
I'm not sure AT ALL, but women who undergo fertifility treatments for IVF sometimes do PGD and I believe they know the sex ahead of time before they implant the embryos. I'm not sure of all the terminology or if this is accurate, but regardless I don't think they'd do it just to choose gender.

Re: Gender selection???
I have heard of this, but have never experienced it first hand. I really don't know if doctors do it regularly or if it's saved only for 'emergency' purposes. i remember seeing an episode of "Yes Dear" a while back and they were going to do that to have a daughter. The whole episode was about the ethics behind the procedure, but then she got pregnant by 'mistake' and the appointment was canceled. Now, this is only a TV SHOW so I'm not sure if it's actually as simple as they made it seem Probably not.
I would probably just try to do it the natural way. Like how PPs already mentioned - BDing at the right time and using those 'special' positions. Either way there's a 50/50 chance, even tho I understand that you've got your heart set on one specific gender. I do trust that you would love your child either way. So maybe it's not worth ALL that money?

Gender Selection
They are located in scarsdale. I don't agree with it. I was just stating options. To be perfectly honest I think trying for a baby the old fashioned way is best and you get what you get

Re: Gender selection???
I have heard of people BD'ing on certain days to try for a specific sex. I have a friend who tried that way for a girl and it worked...but there is a 50-50 chance, so who knows!
I think the male sperm move faster, but the female sperm can last longer. So, if you BD right when the egg is released, you have a better chance of a girl and later on a better chance of a boy. That is only what I have read and what my friend told me....I am certainly not an expert on this!
