Major Anxiety Help Needed
I am a regular poster but I am a little embarrassed so I am posting under a fake name. I have been dealing with anxiety and panic issues for years now. At one point, I was on medication but ended that about a year ago when DH and began talking about starting a family. At first I seemed to be ok, but lately my anxiety and panic attacks have gotten severe. It is at the point now where I don't even want to leave the house and feel sick and anxious when I do. I know I need to do something but I don't want to go back on any medication (I had a horrible withdrawal from them.)
So here is my question...can anyone recommend a psychiatrist or psychologist that they have had success with? I am looking for someone who will teach me some coping techniques and alternative ways to deal with this situation. I have seen someone in the past but she basically made it into a venting session which is not what I need. I really don't know what to do...I am at the end of my mental rope. Any advice would be SO appreciated and please feel free to FM me if you are more comfortable. Thanks. 
ETA: Sorry...forgot to mention I am looking for someone in Nassau County.

if you are looking for a way to cope instead of taking meds.. i would suggest a pschologist rather than a psychiatrist.. sorry i dont' have any names for you

ITA with this...if you are not looking for meds, I'd go with a psychologist. I know a wonderful one, but she's in the city on the UWS. FM me if you want her info.

I know someone who goes to Southeast Nassau Guidance Center in Seaford. This person has a serious mental health diagnosis and they were supportive of their choice to go without meds. When it got to the point that they chose to go back on, they were also very supportive and see them as much as they need, sometimes at a moments notice.

Not currently living in LI so I don't have any good suggestions (except for what others have said go to a Psychologist not a psychiatrist if your would like to stay away from SSRI's/Medications/etc) Just wanted to send hugs. I have been dealing with this recently too and it takes a lot of courage and hard work to get through. Take good care of yourself!

i know a fantastic psychologist who specializes in anxiety and how to deal and breathe etc. she is in Woodbury. FM me if you are interested and best of luck.. believe me i have been there.. it does and will get better with the right psychologist and coping techniques.

if you're looking for coping strategies and alternative therapies... have you tried yoga? yoga was a crucial part of my overcoming my anxiety disorder that i had for almost 10 years.
feel free to FM me for any info or if you just want to talk. I know what you're going thru... but there's a light at the end of the anxiety tunnel. keep working thru it
