Extremely high albumin levels- can anybody help?

My father is being sent to a kidney specialist because his numbers were over 500 and I think they said they are supposed to be under 30. Anybody have any experience? TIA!!!!!!

Yes, my dad had something similiar. Not sure what the reading was but he had to have a stent put in his renal artery.

It was a very common procedure and he went through it with flying colors and hasn't had any issues since.

What is the doctor planning on doing?

Are you sure they said Albumin, because a normal albumin is 4.

Usually anyone with a kidney problem would have a low albumin.

I high Albumin over 5 can indicate dehydration.

I have never seen an albumin over 5.

This is why I am confused. I'm trying to research it and I am seeing that it would normally be low albumin levels. Maybe they told me the wrong thing. I will call them again tomorrow and I am sure I will be back with more questions.

ETA: I do know that the doctor asked him if he had kidney trauma recently and my mom had mentioned the possibility of dialysis.

Hmm. While you ask about the Albumin, ask about his BUN, Creatinine, Potassium and Phosphorous. Bun and Creat would definitely be elevated with some sort of kidney disease, Potassium and Phos go up with progression. Did he show any protein in his urine?

What brought him to the Dr? Was he having any symptoms?

I would assume they are talking about microalbumin in his urine and not a blood albumin level, which as said before has a normal around 4.

High urine levels of micro albumin show protein loss and are usually related to kidney disease- os he diabetic or does has have long standing hihg blood pressure? Kidney disease is closely associated with this. There are other reasons too, I'm sure the nephrologist will have better information

No symptoms. He had some routine blood tests and then that showed some wacky stuff. He went through more tests and they were all way bad. He just took a new test this morning, so hopefully this will give us answers soon.

Thanks!
