I need help (formula related)
Okay here is the story! My little Marco is only 1 month old ! we just went to pediatrician and I was asking 10384093 questions as a new mom. We discussed he is a little gassy and maybe switch formula this week. She recommended getting Carnation/Good Start DHA or Enfamil Gentlease. My issue is I went to 3 stores and couldn't find it. Also when I went online to find it, I found that it only comes in powder form which I do not want to use. I was wondering should I call and ask if he can go on the Similac sensitive or alimentum??? I'm confused on what to do. I don't want to go on a mission everytime I need this. Depending on websites to deliver to me in time isn't safe either. any advice?

Re: I need help (formula related)
alumentim is VERY expensive...i'd try to avoid that route if possible!
what stores did you try? i have found that when all else fails - BRU is VERY reliable....
places to try: walmart target kmart bru bbb supermarkets (you may be surprised)
instead of GOING to all these places - what about calling ahead and seeing if they have it?

Re: I need help (formula related)
Alementium is VERY expensive - We spend SO much $$ on formula it's ridiculous!
Unfortunately Gentlease does not come in RTF, powder only.
I agree, call ahead to any of the stores Jess listed. I know that I've seen it in CVS as well. Also, I don't know if you're ped's office does this, but when they gave me a sample can of the gentlease, I got in the mail 4 days later a CASE of it delivered FREE from my peds office. See if they do that as well.

Re: I need help (formula related)
I used Good Start RTF (DS couldn't tolerate the powder) and I found it at Waldbaums, BRU, & Stop and Shop. Also, you can order it by the case at Diapers.com. I found the Similac Sensitive made DS very constipated.

That is if your ped writes a letter of medical necessity, not just if you choose to use it.
And that isn't true for all insurances and states.

Re: I need help (formula related)
At 4 weeks old we switched DS to Good Start RTF, we got it at BRU all the time.
BJs has the powder I believe but the one time I tried powder for about a week, my great sleeper stopped STTN.
I loved Good Start.
PS it did take about 10 days to see a change in DS in regards to his gas. I did feel afterwards he spit up more, but with no pain (this could have been a coincidence). Ped always just said he was a happy spitter upper.
ETA: Its Nestle Good Start BTW

Re: I need help (formula related)
Lauren, I am not sure what medical insurance you have but many companies cover Alimentum and the competitors versions of such, which are used to treat milk sensitive and colicky babies.
First call your ins carrier and find out what, or IF they cover anything, then ask your ped if they can write you a script for it.
Alimentum and the like, are VERY expensive (ready to feed). This would be your best bet. I have United Health Care and mine covers it, my good friend has BCBS PPO and hers does also. Unfortunately, she did not find out till after someone recomended she call and inquire, but her DD had already been on it for 10 months so she wasted all that $$$$ and it pretty much to late.

unfortunately - it has nothing to do with your insurance - but your prescription coverage. I have United Healthcare as well and they do NOT cover it.
i just wanted to let ya know....unfortunately!

Re: I need help (formula related)
im not sure why you dont want to use the powder, i think Gentle Ease saved our lives.. Anyway, RTF tends to get wasted ALOT..you cant use it after a certain amount of hours, and you have to have it cooled all the time.. im able to bring the powder and a bottle of room temp water anywhere i go and mix it on the spot and have a bottle ready.. next to BFing, this was the easiest for me

Furthermore, they WON'T cover it if it is not medically necessary

I had to use RTF and really didn't find that I wasted anymore then I would have wasted powder. If I was going out I would just put the bottle in a little cooler bag with an ice pack or they have these single serve cans I would bring at room temp. Sure powder is easier, but I really didn't waste anymore by not using it. Of course DS drank every bottle and I made sure nothing went to waste because it was soo $$!!!!

I live in a state where it's MANDATED certain formula is covered if medically necessary. HOWEVER, it all depends on how your company has the coverage set up. My company self-funds therefore DD's alementium is NOT covered even though it is a medical necessity.
