Re: swine flu
It is very scary but I don't know what I would do still. I get nervous about anything that hasn't been around for a long time. I'm always afraid we don't know the true effects of anything until its been around for at least 5 years.
I've never had a flu shot though either and don't think I would get one when I am pregnant. But those risks are pretty scary so I don't know

Re: swine flu
ya its tricky. I got the mercury free regular flu shot....when the time comes I'm going to trust my doctor...there is way too much into and too many peoples opinions for me to do otherwise.

Re: swine flu
Jen,
I have been thinking about it a lot. As you know...i work in that industry
I was thinking i do not need it...b/c i am in & out of offices every day...around sick patients who have had both h1n1 and seasonal flu. Thinking i am hopefully building up some natural immunity. This would only be the case if i wasn't pregnant
However, i have decided that i should get it..(based on if i get pregnant in the next few months) So i would rather get it now prior to pregnancy. Basically once your pregnant your immue system is weakend- & Pregnant women and Children are at the highest risk.
I am going to be getting. MY fear is if i do get my BFP in the next month or so....I will be preggos during the winter and the peak of the flu season. With a weakened immune system while pregnant I am afraid to take the risk...(especially since i am in & out of Pediatrics offices for work)
The H1N1 does come in mercury free presentation too. Basically it is the same manufacturing process as Seasonal flu...nothing has changed at all but a different strain for h1n1.
Hope that helps everyone.

Can you help me with this then.. I'm so afraid of getting it, and afraid not to get it. I'm going to talk to my OB about it next week, but I wanted a little more opinion about it, and since I can't make up my mind, can you help me lol?
I'm 4 weeks pregnant today, and I have a 9 1/2 month old. DH is trying to get both shots because he works with people daily. I'm a SAHM, and I won't be going out to much, but with holidays we will be around people it's inevitable. DS is getting the regular seasonal, I believe, I still have some time to think about it because he has an ear infection now, so he can't get it yet. In your opinion what do you think of pregnant women getting the shot, either shot? I really appreciate all advice, as I'm really struggling with this right now.
Oh and I've never had a flu shot before, but no allergies to eggs or such so I think I should be ok.

Re: swine flu
After reading both the article and Rachel's post, I am still torn. I know that both shots are produced the same way, but under normal circumstances, I would not get a flu shot...so it doesn't make me feel much better that the swine shot is produced the same way. Ugh...I don't know.

It's so hard - I have a lot of my friends asking me what to do. It's so hard to say... I got seasonal flu shot last month and will get h1n1
I would def give it to your son. Everyone one of my pediatric offices in NYC (that i call on for work)are giving it out to everyone and recommending they all get it.
The problem is with the H1N1 it really has been all yr round....there were tons of cases through out the summer and till now. Where as with seasonal it is mostly during peak season jan-march.
So it's up to you! Does your OBGYN have the h1n1 yet? I would def talk to her about it!!
I hope that helps Mayghen!
P.S How are you feeling, any ms yet?

Thank you so much, you def. did help!
I have to look into the h1n1 for myself, I'm not sure who has it. My ped. said that he will be getting it, but I don't think the baby needs that one, whereas the seasonal I believe he will get.
Feeling good, no ms, dizzy and very tired, but with my son 6 weeks to the day it hit and stayed the entire time lol, so I will see in 2 weeks if I get it, I guess!
