Tipping Mailman and Sanitation...

How much is a good tip and how do you go about giving it to them?

This is 2nd holiday season in our house...last year we moved in right before Christmas and totally forgot to tip so I want to make sure to remember this year.

We usually do about $20 each, not sure if that is being cheap though?

Re: Tipping Mailman and Sanitation...

We tip our mailman 50 bucks. I'm not sure about sanitation, I'll have to ask DH, but I think probably the same.

Where do you work? I don't get a tip either... but sanitation and mailmen generally do at years end.

Also doormen generally are tipped as well.

For some types of occupations it is customary to recieve tips. What do you do for waiters and cab drivers etc?

Re: Tipping Mailman and Sanitation...

since my husband works in sanitation, any type of tip is generous. a thank you it good for him at times.

he usually gets 20-50, but some people are over generous and he gets 100 + sometimes

waiter/waitresses have a low base salary and their tips are their main income. Sanitation worker and mailmen are higher paid than a waitress. They are in a totally different catagory. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion
