Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
Hi ladies!!
I’ve got my consult with Dr. B tomorrow and I was just wondering what exactly happens at the first appointment/consultation? Should I expect any sort of exam or blood drawn or anything or just a bunch of questions and info and talking?
I’m really nervous….not about Dr. B….from lurking here I’ve heard so many good things about him I know there is no reason to be nervous about that, just nervous in general….it’s a big step….not sure how to explain my feelings, but I probably don’t have to since we’re all sort of in the same place...
Anyway….i’d love if you guys could let me know how your consult with him went, the kind of things he asked and that you discussed and just what I should expect in general…. Thanks so much!!
p.s. this isn't really my first post here...i'm going incognito for awhile :)

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
On my first RE appoitment (not a Dr. B patient), there were A LOT of querstions asked to both DH and myself. She basically wanted to know everything so she could help us the best way possible. After we finished speaking to her (took about 20-30min), she did an internal sono and took blood.
Good Luck!

oooh! thanks for that info! that is totally important! i had no idea if i should be expecting them to do an exam or anything....as you know, that requires totally different prep work for us girls...LOL...very important to have a heads up on that....
my DH is not going with me....i hope that won't be a problem....maybe i can answer most of his questions? they didn;t tell me to bring him when i called for the appointment....does he have to come?

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
I'm the mom of someone going to Dr. B also. She had a consult a few weeks ago. I went to her appt. with her since her DH was working. I actually went in for the consult since my daughter was nervous and wanted to make sure she didn't forget anything he said. He sat with us for over 1 hr. asking lots of questions, etc. She also had results of any medical tests taken at her ob/gyn. He did not do any exam or blood work that day. He scheduled her blood work and a sono the following week. Every case is different though. Good luck. He's a doll and don't be nervous about meeting with him. He's extremely knowledgeable and I've heard only great things about him!

When I had my consult we were there for over an hour and a half going over my entire history (I brought my records from previous RE). He went thriugh page by page looking at everything. He asked a lot about family history etc.
Good luck! Dr. B. is the greatest.

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
thank you so much for taking the time to answer <3 i am really looking forward to meeting him...i've heard so many over the top amazing things about him, i just know he will be a total doll...i guess i mostly just want to know what is wrong with me...i'm not even super anxious right now to fix it immediately. i know that is probably really strange, but i just want to get to the bottom of the problem if possible (i've had 4 m/cs) and then process that info for awhile before going forward....
i feel sort of unprepared....i'm going alone and i don't have much to take with me, this is my first trip to an RE. my OBGYM tried to get me to go after my 2nd m/c and i didn't and then switched OBGYNs and then i was on the fence about TTC for awhile...
but anyway, the info you've shared really helped. thanks again! does anybody want to come with me and hold my hand? LOL

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
You'll be fine !! Dr. B is amazing (I've only seen him 2x but have talked to him on the phone a LOT)
You should be able to answer any questions about DH. and don't worry about not having anything from you OBGYN. I had paperwork and yes he looked at it, but the bloodwork was more then 3 months old so he wanted to do a new workup anyway.
For my first appt. he did take blood that day and did an internal sono - which I wasn't 100% prepared (if you KWIM) but he didn't seem to care.
Good luck !!!

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
thanks! i will make sure i'm prepared *just in case*....i mean, it always calms me down to know they certainly must have seen much worse than anything we could present, but STILL...
it reminds me of that email forward that goes around every once in awhile about that woman who had an appointment with her OBGYN and grabbed the first washcloth she found at home to freshen up and didn't notice it was full of her daughter's glitter or something....oh goodness... that would be a treat...

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
OMGoodness! ok! i found it....
I was due for an appointment with the gynecologist late in the week.
Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor’s office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30 am. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45 am.
The trip to his office took about thirty-five minutes, so I didn’t have an time to spare. As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn’t going to be able to make the full effort. So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pajamas, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make sure I was at least presentable.
I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, grabbed some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment.
I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in. Knowing the procedure, as I’m sure you do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in Paris or some other place a million miles away.
I was a little surprised when the doctor said, “My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven’t we?” I didn’t respond.
After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home.
The rest of the day was normal: some shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. After school when my six year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, “Mommy, where’s my washcloth?” I told her to get another one from the cupboard.
She replied, “No, I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my glitter and sparkles saved inside it.”

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
i see dr. b too, he is the greatest. i dont know where i would be TTC-wise without him
i went for PCOS (he diagnosed me), so our experiences may be quite different.
my first appt he did about 4 vials of bloodwork. one was fasting insulin so if you havent fasted (i happened to go in before breakfast so we were able to do it) you might get that one another time if you need it.
then we went in his office and talked a bit, he went over the little history i had. then i went in the exam room and he did an internal sono.
that was it! you wait a bit when you go there but he's worth it.
oh and my DH has never gone with me.
good luck
ps- i never saw that story about the glitter before but i love it!!

Re: Consult with Dr. B tomorrow....what to expect?
I went for my first appt yesterday. He confirmed based on past bloodwork, sonograms, etc that I do have PCOS.
DH came with me to the appt and we basically sat in his office the whole time and talked about my history and he explained what PCOS is, etc....... He also talked about my options for getting pregnant.
After we finished talking (which was basically like 45 mins and he was SOOOOOO patient!!) I went in for blood work. It was nothing- 4 vials... I didn't get an internal sono like Flowerife did- He had info form sonograms I had previously taken and already knew that I have PCOS- so I'm guessing that's why he didn't need the further confirmation.
You are very lucky to be starting your (hopefully short) journey with Dr.B. He was AMAZING!
