Is Afrin spray out of the question?
I'm coming down with a nasty cold, and the ONLY thing that helps me cope with a stuffy nose is Afrin.
I have a feeling I already know the answer, though...

Re: Is Afrin spray out of the question?
I didn't when I had a cold while pregnant. I used the saline spray and suffered through it. See what your OB says though.

Re: Is Afrin spray out of the question?
I have been congested basically the entire pregnancy LOL and I just use the neti pot every night - no medication at all.

Re: Is Afrin spray out of the question?
I know how you feel. But my OB said no to nasal sprays. He said saline spray is OK - but that didn't really work for me. He said no multi-symptom meds - but that regular Sudafed is OK.
Hope you feel better!

Re: Is Afrin spray out of the question?
I wouldn't use it. Too many chemicals. Try regular saline first.

I was told the same thing, sorry. The neti-pot was a godsend when I was pregnant with DD, I would def pick one of those up too.

Re: Is Afrin spray out of the question?
It is a class C drug, so I wouldn't chance it. I had always had sinus issues and was told by my Dr. to stay away from afrin because it actually makes things worse. It clears you up for a short period but then causes dryness and inflammation which makes the sinus congestion worse. It can also lead to a bacterial infection from trapping the mucus in the sinus cavity. Saline nasal spray or a neti pot are the best things to use for a sinus infection.
This site is a great resource to find out how safe a certain drug is to take during pregnancy.

Re: Is Afrin spray out of the question?
I am still recovering from a cold that was mostly nasal. I was using the Netti pot and my doc said using that and the sprays were fine. He did not say Affrin specifically tho. I have never used a spray only the Netti pot so I didnt ask anything further.
My doc told me "alavert" which is generic claritin is also ok.
Hope this helps! Feel better!
