Hypothyroidism
Anyone have it? Any information you can offer is appreciated. What prompted you getting tested? What treatment are you doing? Have you lost weight and gotten any energy back since starting treatment?
If you are not comfortable posting, send FM please! Thanks!

Re: Hypothyroidism
DH had hyperthyroidism and his thyroid was killed off (and then later on removed). Since it was killed off he's been on synthroid. Yes, it does help with maintaining your weight. My BFF has hypothyroidism and it does help her. She was tested because her mother has it.

Re: Hypothyroidism
Yes, I had it as a teen, it got better, and I was diagnosed again once I became pregnant.
My symptoms were hair loss and extreme exhaustion. I requested a blood test and found out I was suffering from hypothyroidism.
I am now on Thyroxine and I feel a lot better. My hair came back and I am not as tired. Weight loss doesn't apply since I am preggers.
Another symptom is brittle hair that breaks easily-once I started Thyroxine, my hair became softer.

Re: Hypothyroidism
my mom has hasimotos. She has a lot of symptoms, weight gain, constipation, fatigue, trouble breathing, anxiety at night, hair falling out, druy skin. She has been on several different meds, but they're still working on finding the right balance and dose for her, sine hasimotos can make your thyroid levels bounce around

Re: Hypothyroidism
Sister, Mom and husband have hypothyroidism. None of them lost weight on Synthroid so I wouldn't count on it so much. Symptoms with DH were fatigue, skin issues, mood swings. They found nodules on his thyroid, biopsied, came back benign, that was about 10 years ago. He's been on varying doses of synthroid ever since with no ill effects (unless he forgets to fill the script for a few days). He gets his blood tested every six months or so.
It's really manageable and not a big deal at this point.

Re: Hypothyroidism
I have a hypothyroid. I gained weight pretty fast and decided to get it checked out because I was always feeling extremely tired. Turned out my levels were off and the dr. put me on Synthroid. Since on synthroid I do feel a little better. And it is possible to lose weight while on it. Now I go every 6 months to the dr. to get checked out incase anything changes and to see if I should take a different dosage.
Definitely should get it checked out if you are experiencing some of the symptons. I honestly didn't think too much about how important the thyroid was until I ended up with this.
