Placenta previa
Please talk to me about this. As I was leaving my 12 wk appt today the nurse told me that my placenta was low and it is known as placenta previa. The doctor never even mentioned it to me. She told me that I should do no heavy lifting or working out. So far I have had no bleeding, but it still freaked me out a little. Does anyone have this? Any further insight from a BTDT would be greatly appreciated.
Aside from that the baby is doing perfectly!

Re: Placenta previa
It means your placenta is covering your cervix. I had a low lying placenta which moved in time for delivery and I was allowed to have a vaginal delivery. I ended up in the hospital for 4 nights because of bleeding but everything turned out well. I was told the same thing, no lifting, no exercise but also no sex. As you get along in your pregnancy the placenta may move. I suggest you talk to your doctor about it so that you can get a better picture of where your placenta lies. I know I was worried about being forced to have a c-section but mine moved. You are early on in your pregnancy so you may be ok by the end but you need to know if your placenta is completely covering your cervix or if it is partial. Talk to your doctor.
hope that helped.

Re: Placenta previa
I had this on my 20 week sonogram and they told me it was a complete placenta previa, so they told me pelvic rest - which meant no sex! and no heavy lifting, and drink plenty of water. I had no episodes of bleeding. I went back for a sono at 28 weeks and it moved away from the cervix which they said happens in the majority of cases. So, there is a chance that is your uterus grows, the placenta will move away!
HTH Good Luck!

Re: Placenta previa
my friend and sister had this. most likely your placenta will move and you'll be fine. in the mean time you'll be on pelvic rest. no exercise, sex (orgasms), heavy lifting. if it doesnt move you'll have to have a c-section. GL!

Re: Placenta previa
I had a low lying placenta and bled a few times. It eventually moved around week 24 I want to say. One of my friends had a complete previa - when that happens you have to have a c-section.

i've been told that my placenta is 1cm away from cervix so no heavy lifting, exercise and doc said no sex. doc repeated it about 3 times, then turned to DH and said: you got that buddy? no sex!

Re: Placenta previa
Do you have complete previa or partial?
I had a low lying placenta, and it did move out of the way. Most of the time, by your 20 week ultrasound the placenta has moved away.
If it is complete previa then that means a c-section is necessary.

Re: Placenta previa
I called last night and spoke to the sono tech that did my sonogram yesterday. Before I could even finish asking my questions she said not to worry bc it is common in the first tri and when I go back next month I will likely see that it has moved upward. I asked her about having sex and she asked the doctor and they said that it was ok for me to have sex. Unfortunately I havent been in the mood at all so the sex thing really doesnt make a diff at this point.

Re: Placenta previa
I wouldn't worry too much, since it;s still early/ I was told that a low lying placenta in the second trimester usually "fixes itself", as long as it is not fully blocking your cervix you can most likely still have a viginal delivery.... I was diagnosed at 16 weeks with "Marginal placenta previa" and put on pelvic rest, at my 20 week appointment it had not dropped so my Dr. told me to take it easy (cut back on exercising) but not to worry, now they are just monitoring me.
