Running and TTC!

So I was watching the View today where they had a segment on infertility. Now I am not even TTC, however found it interesting when the doctor said women who run long distances like 50 miles a week typically have issues TTC. So that got me concerned since I am training for a marathon that is coming up in a few weeks, have another marathon on Halloween later this year, and often have mileage of 40+ miles per week along with weight training, spin, and other cardio.

So I did some research on this and the evidence states that women who are sedentary have a 3-5% chance of problems conceiving and women who are keep a rigorous high mileage running schedule and have low body fat have a 10-50% chance of infertility! Chat Icon I had no idea...I thought I am the healthiest and in the best shape I have ever been in, so at least I have that in my favor...well apparently that was wrong. My research did say that you can increase your chance again by lowering mileage and activity and after 3 months your chances go back up!

Does anyone have any further information on this topic or experience?

It seems like everyone has a different level of sensitivity with this sort of thing--as proven by the previous poster.
I work out pretty hard core (but not running heavy mileage) and I have a short luteal phase. I've done a little research on this and it's suggested to cut back. I'm not training for anything, so I'm trying to scale back. I haven't ovulated yet this cycle, so no idea if it's helping or not.

How long have you been trying? Are you having difficulties? I'd say go about your normal life and if it's not happening in a time frame that you would deem normal/acceptable, then I'd cut back or speak to your dr about it.

Thanks for the replies. I am not currently TTC, however I am educating myself, because I feel like all I hear about is women having problems ttc, so assume I will too!

Re: Running and TTC!

I have heard that extreme exercise, not that you are extreme, but can mess up your cycles. So if you are getting your period regularly, I wouldn't worry.
