bumblebee problem
Its weird, both last summer and now, I have these two bumblebee's that just kind of hover and buzz around right in front of my house.
I can't find a nest anywhere and its always just 1 or 2. there isn't even a garden or anything with flowers, just the driveway and mailbox.
They are there from the morning / afternoon and then just dissappear in the evenning, but there the next day.
I tried spraying them, but they are too quick.
Anything out there that I can put out which can deter them away?

Re: bumblebee problem
those sound like carpenter bees, they borrow holes in any wood surface and cause major damage if left to populate.
i would look at any wood you have in that area see if you can find holes. Typically you will see sawdust on the ground near the hole. Spray the nest after they go in it and they will die.

I was thinking the same thing. We have these and if I look super close at our front deck I see small holes.
Do you have a deck in front?

Re: bumblebee problem
Are they fairly large and have white on their backs?
They sound like carpenters. They dont usually sting, but they can be harmful to wood. We had them in the wood post of our mailbox.

Re: bumblebee problem
Funny you should mention the mailbox, we do have a wood mailbox post which is exactly where it seems to hover.
I never though see it go on the post or in it anywhere, and don't see any visible holes. The 1 or 2 of them just kind of hover there. Once in awhile they almost seem to fight or whatever they are doing and just fly around.
They seem pretty large about half size of a thumb, and are mainly black on their backs.
I will check for any holes in the post closer.
