Re: anyone have vertigo?

I had this a few years ago, its called positional vertigo. See an ENT, they have exercises that will get rid of it. I actually just started to experience it again, and did they exercises and now its gone..Its caused by crystal buildup in the ear.

Re: anyone have vertigo?

FIL has had this for almost 4 years now. It was much worse in the beginning but it still hasn't gone away fully. Try seeing an ENT or a chiropractor. He had some therapy sessions that helped a bit.

Re: anyone have vertigo?

i;ve suffered from vertigo for years. some of it is related to an allergy to nutrasweet (asparatame) i cut out diet soda and it has helped tremendously. but some of it is also hormone related. not to scare you but when i got pregnant, it hit me like a ton of bricks. i ended up on disability fo 8.5 months because i wasn't allowed to drive. (i could barely stand up without help for the first 4 months of the pregnancy) suffered from that and migraines. (and same thing the second time i got pregnant) it got better once i gave birth though which is why i blame alot of it on hormones. but i have lived with dizzyness on and off for most of my life. most of hte time i just deal with it and keep going. sorry, can't help more than that. i've done the ENT, and neurologists... had tons of testing... nothing was ever conclusive. i just get dizzy.

Re: anyone have vertigo?

I have it - got it for the first time after a doc I will NEVER go back to told me I could fly after an ear infection. It was really scary. I couldn't hold DS for 3-5 days. I had it another time really bad too - my regular family doc diagnosed it with some simple follow my finger/touch your nose type tests.

I was on an Rx called Meclizine HCL - 25 mg. My mom was complaining of being nausous for a few days so I was looking for something for her in the drug store and found that Bonine and Dramaine II have the same active ingredient as my Rx. I asked the pharmasist and he said it was the same drug. Some insurance companies cover it - some don't - depending on the reason.

I do know that when I get a really bad sinus headache it feels like the vertigo acts up so as soon as I get a cold I get decongestants in me. So I am also careful with seasonal allergies.

It was a good thing too b/c I had an episode on Saturday after riding the subway for 2 days in a row.

I'm just letting you know my experiences - its not medical advice.

The pharmasist did warn me not to self diagnose myself b/c it could be other things - like just a sinus headache or as bad as MS.
If you can't get an answer from an ENT, you might want to consider a neurologist (really not trying to scare you - just letting you know what was told to me).

Re: anyone have vertigo?

i got it first in 2002. then i got an episode of it again last may, but didn't realize i had it. it was so bad i ended up in the er since i could not keep any food down. the dizziness lasted about 3 months on the meclizine. i have no idea why it came back, but i was told the first time i got it was because i swam in a pool and flew on an airplane on the same day. i hate it.

i do exercises to control it.

What exercises do you do? I looked online a little yesterday - couldn't find anything useful to a common person.

Re: anyone have vertigo?

I have postional benign vertigo. My doc laid me on a table and i had to put my head to one side and then sit up. The room was spinning after that. She told me i had vertigo. I never took any meds for it. She told me to drink alot of water. I also went to an ENT and had the wax taken out of my ears. I get dizzy every now and then. I actually wear those presurre point wrist bands sometimes when its bad.
