Jess, she is 11 months right? She might not be ready...I know a lot of people do table food early now, but my ped had me wait til he was 11-12 months
yes - she's just over 11 months....
i just feel like we're so behind, because of the concern of allergies and then the viruses' she's had...
i'll wait for her 12 month appointment before I go hardcore..
As the old hag, I mean, BTDT
My ped had me just do little bits at 11-12 months, and mainly snacks, and by just a bit past 12 months he was totally off baby food and we never looked back.
Christopher was in daycare at that time and his teacher suggested the Earth's Best cereal bars and they are wonderful, cut them up and I will bet you she will love it

Emma's twin is really only getting her first big tastes of some table food this week.
banana chunks
bread with cream cheese (this week)
bits of pancake
she likes pastina but only a teeny amount cooked in broth mixed in with some type of pureed veggie - doesn't like any other pasta
We are trying yogurt for the first time tomorrow
cheese (this week)
meatballs
rice
chopped chicken
chili
cucumber
hummus
spiinach patties
diced tomato (this week)
sweet potato is her favorite - I am making her sweet potato fries this wekk
she ate a french fry yesterday and was begging for more!!!!

Re: Starting Table Foods 101
I was just going to post the same question I tried giving my DS (9 months) pastina this week and it did not go well at all. He gagged and almost threw up. He also had food allergies so it's hard to find foods he can eat.

Re: Starting Table Foods 101
Tonight I made some brown rice, grilled chicken (chopped up tiny), and mixed veggies....all mixed together with a pinch of salt and pepper, and a little bit of curry powder
DD will probably eat this for dinner for the next 3 nights
Anyone have a good recipe with lentils?

Re: Starting Table Foods 101
great ideas on this page-bookmarking it. just wanted to add the veggie pancakes-Dr. Praeger's i think? broccoli pancakes, potato pancakes, spinach pancakes. DS loves them and they are so soft and easy to eat.

Re: Starting Table Foods 101
my DS is 13 months old and we have been having a hard time with solids. He will chew things but wont swallow. Like you we tried so many things we thought all babies ate. The first thing he actually ate was (of all things) black beans . Weird but true. Then we tried canned peas and carrots. That worked too. The I moved to a mixed veggie risotto (veggies diced super small and mushy) and he loves this too. It is still a work in progress.

Re: Starting Table Foods 101
Both girls for me did the best when they started with these items:
Steamed baby carrots (then you dice them into very very tiny pieces hamburger meat or ground chicken or turkey - you cook then crumble into VERY tiny pieces to pick up- making them into meatballs (I have a good chicken meatball recipe if you want it that is very moist so it isn't dry when you crumble it) Pancakes into tiny pieces always went over better with my girls than waffles which can be a bit hard or dry. cantaloupe diced into tiny pieces pears diced into tiny pieces neither DD liked american cheese but I get those individual wrapped I think they are cracker barrel cheddar cheese pieces - then I crumble them into tiny pieces DD#2 didn't care for pastina - but things like tiny wheels of pasta that you can then break up into tiny pieces worked for us. DD#1 loved steamed broccoli (I never put anything on their veggies they always eat them plain steamed) - DD#2 isn't as crazy about the consistency of it. I don't give rice at this age b.c I have had several friends say that their children choked on it Eggs (scrambled or omlette with cheese or hard boiled) Avocado is another BIG one my girls loved. Bananas
DD never gets anything whole yet - except for puffs and cheerios - I cut her food up into tiny pieces - it works for us and I have never had choking or gagging issues.
Etd to add that - she might not be ready - DD#1 took longer to really eat foods she picked up and not spoon fed - she was capable just not really ready for more than the cheerios, puffs and like one or two other things. DD#2 on the other hand is eating more now than her sister was.

with regards to all of this food - it's stuff you guys eat too?
like mac & cheese - is it kraft or some 'better' version?
eggs - can i give her the WHOLE egg - meaning yellow & white part? or just whites?
nuggets - home-made or is perdue already breaded nuggets okay??
Sometimes.. and sometimes not. Last night we had pizza.. HUGE hit. I just cut it up super small.
Ravoli is also a huge hit. I give the whole egg. I think 10 months they can have it. I did scrambled but found that scrambled with cheese was better. nuggets... perdue. Most other stuff is homemade.
How about some orzo with melted cheese and veggies mixed in.
I found this cookbook to be helpful .(link)
I make some of the orzo stuff in there and I cube it and freeze it just like I did with home made baby food.
mac and cheese I do homemade.
You can call stem some chopped brocolli and boil orzo. THen made a cream sauce (melt 1 tbs butter and then add 1 tbs flour. Cook for a few and then add a cup of milk and cook until thickened) and melt cheese in it and mix it all together. YUm.
