Stuttering/stammering
MY Ds, age 9, has always had "ticks" since he was a little kid. He's always very nervous & worried, and the ticks come and go. SOme are more annoying and involved than others. He's had issues with hand washing, whispering back to himself, picking at his cuticles, etc. He's been doing different stuff in this vein since he was 3 years old.
For the past year, he has been stammering when nervous. It is not all the time, and was usually when he was nervous or rushing. However, lately it has been A LOT more. I can't really describe it, but it is more of a stutter. My dad's best friend when I was growing up had a major stutter, and the long sound of the word he was trying to get out sounded like what Nick has been doing.
For example, if Nick was trying to say "Look at me," he used to go, "L-L-L-L-Look at m-m-m-me." Lately, it will be more like, "Loooooo-Loooooo-Loooook at me." I don't know if this makes any sense. Probably one of those things you have to hear for yourself.
My question- and sorry it took so long to get it out- is should I call the speech teacher? It's the end of the school year, first of all, and I don't know if this is a real issue or just one of his ticks. I would normally call the classroom teacher, but she is not in a lot (pregnant with twins) and they've mostly had subs in and out.
What do you think? Sorry so long!!!

I'd definitely contact someone just as a back up. you are his mother, you are concerned and the school is there to help you and him if he needs it.

I agree, definately contact someone. There also could be an underlying stress issue that is making him stutter. Maybe something happening in school.
But definately contact someone, the earlier you help him with the stutter the easier it will to correct it.
My sister had a mean stutter when my mom separated from my dad. It would take her like 20 minutes to say one sentence. They put her in speech classes and you would never guess how bad it was or that she even stuttered as a child.
