hiatal hernia?
Anyoen have this?
If so, how was it diagnosed and what symptoms did you have and how was it treated?
Been having some stomach pain, two dr.'s diagnsoed me with this...kinda without any "testing" ..though referred me to a gastro to have a formal diagnosis.
I am tending to disagree, I have no heartburn, GERD sysmptoms etc..
Just this weird burning, pulling, sharp pain on my left side/top of stomach...
TIA

Re: hiatal hernia?
I have one. The Dr. diagnosed it by upper endoscopy. In that case they can see it and there is not really any mistaking the diagnosis. I'm not sure if they can feel it on exam.

Re: hiatal hernia?
Mine was also diagnosed through an endoscopy. My symptoms were major heartburn and gas pains with lots of burping The doctor said that the hiatal hernia is what made my acid reflux feel worse.

Re: hiatal hernia?
My dad has a hiatal hernia. He was diagnosed when I was in high school so this is going back 17 years or so.
He was actually brought to the hospital because at the time, the symptoms he was having made them think he was having a heart attack. He felt pain in his chest and the nurse at his office (worked at a huge office at that time) got nervous and sent him to the hospital.
I honestly don't know how they diagnosed him. I do know that they admitted him to the heart part of the hospital and my dad gets bored easily so he would get on the floor to do push ups and sit ups and raise his heart rate making the nurses come running in to make sure he was OK!
Now that he's diagnosed, he was told to avoid foods that are high in acidity and spice. Not to eat late at night before laying down to go to sleep. Of course, he never takes this advice and has many nights where he is up sitting in his chair in the living room because he is hurting from the hiatal hernia.
I guess different people may present different symptoms?
