I'd also like to add that many SAHM's have younger kids at home which makes volunteering during school hours nearly impossible unless you have family around that would babysit.
My son will be entering Kindergarten and while I would love to be the class mom or be in his class once a week I know it will never happen since I will have a newborn and 3 year old at home and no daytime babysitter.
So SAHM doesn't always mean available mom.

Same all around.
At the beginning of the year, I emailed the president of the Mother's Club and explained that I had a 2 year old (now 3, and a newborn in October) and would not be able to make it to any meetings, but I would try to help out if at all possible.
Yesterday was the school carnival--I was not able to volunteer. I hope people don't look at me like I'm a deadbeat. My MIL works, my mom just had her hip replaced and if I had any other babysitting, trust me...I'd probably be back at work.

Ha Ha...same here with the working! I own a biz, but actually only work in the evenings and weekends since I don't have anyone to babysit and daycare is out of reach with the cost of two kids. Otherwise, I'd be at my store much more often during the day and not so much at night.

I dont think anyone looks at you like that. When I was working in the city I was only able to do one or two things during the school year. I think people understand that many family situations do not lend time for volunteering.

Re: How many of DC's activities do you volunteer for?
None. I am limited because I still have a younger DD and no one to watch her. My son is in t-ball, soccer and karate now, and will also take swim lessons over the summer. I can't coach any team or do much else since my DH works 7 days a week sometimes and he also works weekends, making it nearly impossible.
However, I am very active in the school as a volunteer since I can do that while they are in school.
