Those that had chemical pregnancies...

When DPO did you get your BFP? When did AF show up? Did you have any signs that it was a chemical pregnancy?

I never hard a chemical but I know some women will get a positive test and then a few days later AF arrives.

I guess the only way you know is if you see a BFP.

"Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. 50 to 60% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage very early in pregnancy. Most occur without the woman even knowing that she was pregnant."

Re: Those that had chemical pregnancies...

ive had two chemicals and here is what happened. i have PCOS and both cycles were medicated for ovulation induction. both chemicals were very different.

chemical #1 - was on progesterone so i just figured any symptoms of pregnancy that i was having were just side effects of progesterone, since they are similar to early pregnancy symptoms. i normally have a 10-day LP off of progesterone, but i know progesterone could delay AF so when i got to 12DPO, i didnt really know if i was late or if it was just the progesterone. anyway 12DPO i had spotting. it was bright red on the TP only and only happened once that day. i thought i was out but no AF... POAS for the first time at 13DPO and BFN...14DPO BFN...i make it to 15DPO and the same thing with the spotting that happened at 12DPO happened again. i thought i was out again. still all BFNs. when AF still didnt arrived i called the RE to schedule a beta even though i didnt think i was PG due to all the BFNs. I finally went for the beta at 17DPO. he calls back and tells me its at a 5, which either means late implantation or a chemical and i had to repeat the beta two days later. that night i got the FAINTEST line on a blue dye HPT, and all negatives on all other tests. i wasnt too hopeful at that point. i woke up at 19DPO with spotting, went in for the repeat beta, and before the results were in AF was full force. the beta was down to 2 so i knew it was chemical. i figured it was a fluke, my RE didnt look too much into it, although he did call for some more testing just in case.

Chemical #2
I was also on progesterone that cycle, so again i tried not to look too much into any symptoms. At 5DPO i started having A LOT of clear wet CM. like A LOT, it was (sorry TMI) like pouring out of me. at around 9-10DPO every time the CM came out i like ran to the bathroom expecting it to be AF but it was crystal clear. i decided not to test until 12DPO. I had a beta scheduled for 15DPO. on 12DPO i tested for the first time and +'s on both FRER and CBE digital. 13DPO same thing, both +'s on both tests. on the digi "pregnant" came up really fast the second day. so i emailed my RE. he was so happy. i told him i was nervous about it sticking cause of the previous chemical, he assured me that if i got +'s on the HPT's that my beta was already higher than last time. i moved my beta up one day to 14DPO since that was the next week day. the beta came back at 42, the RE congratulated me and said i was def. pregnant. i had to go for a repeat beta 2 days later to ensure the # was going up. the RE called me back after the second beta and i was ABSOLUTELY shocked when he said it hadn't gone up as much as they would have liked - in 2 days it went from 42 only to 46 (16DPO) and its supposed to double at least in that time. he said it probably wasnt going to be viable but that i should repeat beta the next day to see if its still going up or maybe it was a lab error. so the next day (17DPO) i did an other beta and at that point it started going down to 41. i was so sad. i really thought that i was just going to be pregnant and that was it. i thought my journey to that point was so long (over 1 year) and with PCOS i always thought my problem was ovulation, not carrying a baby as well..Chat Icon Chat Icon anyway AF arrived at 23DPO. looking back i feel like the fact that my symptoms of PG never got worse, i felt like maybe something was wrong and my numbers werent going up. but i think a lot of people feel that way that end up with good outcomes so i dont know.

anyway since then i found out that i have both a blood clotting issue and elevated NK cells. both of these are cause/effect of PCOS. and all of this is likely the reason that i had both chemicals. its a little relieving to have possible answers, so we know how to treat it next cycle. its been 4+ weeks now since the last chemical and i have finally started to feel normal again. i see the RE on saturday to determine when i can start my next cycle. i will be on more meds next cycle then i ever thought i would ever be on in my life. i really hope it all works because i dont know how many uber-medicated cycles i can handle. im Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that i can conceive in july and carry a baby to term with the help of my RE!!

good luck to you - feel free to FM if you have any questions!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Those that had chemical pregnancies...

At 16 DPO, I got a BFP and since I was charting, when I took my temp the next day, it dropped WAY below the coverline. I knew my progesterone was dropping. My RE did a beta and yes I was PG and he knew it wasn't viable. He said 3 days and it would be over - it was. He was right.
