Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
a good friend of mine at work, his wife is pregnant with twins....she was just put on bed rest for the remaining 12 weeks of her pregnancy...
i want to put together a gift for her....of things to help get her through...(i already gave him the list of movies he can borrow)...
what helped you get through your bed-rest and not lose your mind? i'd like to do a basket, or a big box of things for her....

Books, dvd's (I had a travel dvd player) and magazines. Maybe a gift card to a takeout restaurant nearby. Dh and would order in every so often and it was a nice treat.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
any kind of books about Baby's Growth, BF, dealing with newborn.
I read a lot when I was preg, more than I probably have in years. I wish I had more time to read these books preg, and just reference them when baby got here.
Here's two that are very good and generally liked:
Happiest Baby on the Block Healthy Sleep Habitats Happy Child
Does she knit? Maybe you can get her some easy knitting kits. I would have loved to have more time to knit. I had time for one pair of booties and a cap.I really wanted to have time to do more. DS was 8lb baby, much too big for the cap and booties, I was really sad about it.
Any kind of bath, creams, nice smelling, relaxing stuff.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
Movies, books, magazines helped so much. People bringing food over was wonderful since DH was not much of a cook then. Does she paint or have a favorite hobby? Maybe ask her DH what some of her hobbies/passions are.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
Magazines, books, a cooler to keep next to me so I didn't have to get up, maybe some crossword puzzle books.
My mom also got me a great book on Twins and Multiples I will look and find it and give you the name. It gave tips for bedrest and also told you the prognosis for babies born at every week,
Just give her lots and lots of support. Bedrest was the worst and it was quite depressing.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
I am on BR now. I can tell you ANYTHING that breaks up the day is welcomed!
I agree with the PP, books, magazines, dvds, gift card to a bookstore so she can buy books online. Also, people have brought us dinner already made which has been a huge help since DH is king of takeout and mac and cheese.
ETA- just wanted to add - the best thing has been people visiting. Looking forward to having people just come over and sit with you for awhile really makes the time go by faster.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
Crashing:
I'm on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy and some of the best gifts I got were gift cards to shop online. My mom got me gift cards for local resturants, I just call in and DH picks up food so I don't have to cook. Another friend got me a really nice scrap book with tons of extra goodies to make a baby book...its been keeping me busy. Magazines and books have also been keeping me pre-occupied.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
I was on bedrest from 33 weeks until I delivered at 38w6d. The DVR was by far by best friend. But I also enjoyed word searches and reading. Maybe throw in a gift card to Barnes and Noble? This way she can pick up any book that may interest her whether it is parenting related or not.
Plus, meals were always hard. I couldn't cook and DH was still working. So maybe making a couple of meals and freezing them would probably be a huge help. Or a gift card for some take out? Or even simple things like cereal, popcorn, etc. So she has something to munch on. Ahhh and maybe even a HUGE sport bottle so she can fill her water once and have it last a while.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
I was on bedrest for about five months during my first pregnancy. I played games on my computer, watched movies, read magazines and tons of baby books. So I would say:
Magazines
Peapod gift card (so she can food shop online)-one less thing DH has to do
Freeze some meals for her and DH, we always appreciated that
Gift cards she can use for online shopping
Scrap booking supplies
Knitting supplies for a beginner (if you think she might be into it)
Computer games (I played the Sims and scrabble)
Comfy lounge clothes
Manicure supplies

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
Is she in hospital or at home?
Netflix subscription Laptop Food delivery Snacks/Candy If she can't go to the shower, something to make her feel clean, like nice scented body wipes, powder, the stuff you spray in your hair to make it smell & feel clean (RockaHolic was the one I used I think) maybe check Sephora online. If she's into indulging, schedule a nail tech to go to her house or hospital room to give her a mani/pedi.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
I have some twin books she can have too..Will I see you Sat? I can give to you. That helped me, plus movies, Magazines and books. Read tons and tons of magazines. And I got a nintendo Ds...tell her DH to buy her one and get her a game. LOL Some nice lotion, chapstick, a nice water bottle, even cute lounge wear etc. Something like any of those would have been nice.

Re: Bed Rest Moms - Help Needed Please
thank you all so very much!
she is home for the time being. they are trying to get her home monitoring 'stuff' approved through insurance...if they can't - then she'll be in the hospital. they have 2 weeks of a 'loaner' from the hospital.
she's not terribly crafty - but i'm going to compose a nice list based on what you have all recommended and run it by my friend and see what he thinks would be best!
THANK YOU!!!
