We have our CPSE meeting tomorrow...
to see if DS will receive any services. Other than bringing the reports, is there anything else I need to bring or need to do to prepare for the meeting?

Do you have a parent advocate going with you?

jUST REMEMBER that if you're not comfortable with the results or dont understand something, you can table the meeting - say you need more time to prepare and you';re not ready to sign anything. They will then re-schedule. good luck!

It's been a long time since I sat in a CPSE meeting but the advocate helps to get you want you want. If some of the tests are borderline results, they may try to down play and reduce services whereas an advocate helps to give you a voice. Have you been able to read the reports and recommendations yet?

Good luck! We've done out stuff privately so I'm not sure how all this works. I hope it goes well for you.

Re: We have our CPSE meeting tomorrow...
The school district should provide a parent advocate for the meeting. The first part of the meeting will review the testing results. Anyone that evaluated your DC will speak to their findings. They will give lots of percentiles, just remember anything above the 25% is considered average. They will then make their recommendations based on their testing. If you do not agree, if you don't understand ask questions. Have them talk about goals if you get services. What will be the goals they plan on working on during the sessions. Remember if you are not comfortable simply ask to table the meeting. They will reschedule and this will give you time to seek advice. Did you speak with the therapists about their findings prior to the meeting? Hope it goes well. They are there to help you. Don't be afraid to ask for more. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Re: We have our CPSE meeting tomorrow...
yes- the district should have asked you if you wanted a parent advocate! I heard they didn't do much and one wasn't avail for us so I wouldn't worry!
Good luck today!

Re: We have our CPSE meeting tomorrow...
good luck we have ours tomorrow...DS came out borderline for PT issues. I have a feeling they may not give it to him since he's right on the cusp. Within the month since the eval though, he is now jumping off things and doing other stuff more confidently, so not sure if I should fight for services or not.

Re: We have our CPSE meeting tomorrow...
You "should" have a parent advocate.
1st meeting: She never talked or said anything.
IEP meeting: Nobody showed up.
I strongly suggest you know what you want ahead of time. Some districts will cut you on ALL services. So know what you want and fight for what is important.
Do not agree to anything if you don't like the results of the meeting.
I brought an ENTIRE ARMY with me. My social worker, my speech therapist and one of my ABA therapist. In addition to the team leader and EI service coordinator. It was cramped but I felt I had the support I wanted.

Re: We have our CPSE meeting tomorrow...
Best of Luck. I went in ready to fight for all the services AND for them to take place at school. Our meeting went GREAT. I barely had to say a word. The district was understanding and we got everything..even a bus to bring DS to school in the AMs!
There was no parent advocate at our meeting. I wouldn't worry. You'll be fine! Good Luck

Thanks!
I feel comfortable going into the meeting. I know what I want for him and have my own notes and highlighted certain areas of the reports. I also am bringing his progress reports from EI. He scored out of EI in December so I took it upon myself to get him re-evaluated by CPSE after he turned 3.
My EI coordinator and other families I know in my district said my district is very generous with services. I feel pretty confident they will offer him speech and OT based on his scores. DS doesnt require ABA services so I feel that is one less "fight" for me.
Thanks to you guys I know that if I feel uncomfortable with the direction of the meeting or am not happy with the outcome I can table the meeting and get an advocate and come back later.
