How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

Jordan had an OT eval today and they said that holding the bottle happens at 5 months. He's 7 months 1 week. I don't know ANYONE who's baby held the bottle at 5 months!

DD is 5 and a half months and will grab for the bottle and grasp it with her hands but cannot hold it upright herself for more than a few seconds. I think it's too heavy for her. I wouldn't be worried at all.

He can grab it but just holds it in a position to teethe on the nipple - not to drink it.

DS started at about 7 months 2 weeks. I would put his hands on the bottle around 6 months

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

DD is just about 19 months old and NEVER held her own bottle. IMO, holding the bottle is not a milestone that should be evaluated and 5 months is still YOUNG to be able to hold a bottle.

I honestly would NOT be worried!!! Many kids never hold their own bottles.

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

My son was 10 months and my daughter was 8 months. I don't even believe it's possible at 5 months. It's like people who claim their child was potty trained at 9 months - before they could talk or walk! :)

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

Ask the ladies that went to the Nassau GTG and saw DS hold his bottle, he's 5m.

Yes, he can do it, but not always and often I have to help him towards the end when he can't angle it just right.

But he's on his way to holding his own bottles full time, and I think it had little to nothing to do with me, but everything to do with him.

Like I kept saying "he's just a passionate eater" he loves to eat, and he's a big tall baby, so probably need it to keep up his size. He's nearly 20lbs and 29" long.

ETA: Please don't stress over it, its really silly thing. I know my baby is an exception, not the rule, a lot of his cousins don't get why they should even bother holding their own bottle if someone is there holding it for them.

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

DD will be 5 mos 9/9 and she has been starting to hold the bottle over the last 2 weeks. She holds it for a minute then it slips and she tries to get it back in, then holds it for another little bit. Within the next week or 2 I expect she will really be able to hold it better and have even more control. All kids are different though. We had no idea DS could hold his bottletildaycare told us he hadbeen doing it for a while.

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

DD is 11 months today. She can hold it but will not tilt it up to her mouth - so if it is not perfectly full she can't drink out of it. I would not worry about it at 5 months. I never heard that it was a milestone either.

DS started to hold it around 3 months. he would do it more for hubby then me but I have a few pics of him doing it on my cell...

I looked in his baby book and I put the date in there. Feb 2, 2010. He was a little over 3 months..He did it on and off for a while. Then he started to hold it more and more around 5 months...

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

DD held it for the first time right after she was 4 months--it was on and off for another month but by 5 months she was holding her own bottle and drinking from it. I think its possible--she is strong willed and wanted to make sure that nobody was playing around with her bottle--she likes to drink it to the last drop :)

My DD never held her bottle. DS is 7 months and still doesn't. I don't expect him to at this point.

DS has been trying to hold it for a few weeks now. He just turned 6 mos. He can hold it but not high or long enough to actually feed himself yet.

Re: How old was your DC when they held their own bottle?

when we were using the small 4 oz dr. browns bottles, DS would hold it himself at like 3-4 mos. Then when i used the 8oz bottles..he'll grab it, but cant hold it up and he's 10mos. He wants nothing to do with holding it himself the whole time..LOL.

i wouldnt worry.

around 5 months she would grasp it but get lazy when she saw me helping.
6 months is when she started holding it by herself and now she gets mad if we hold it for her

Do they mean just grasping the bottle or grasping and self-feeding? My DS could grab the bottle I'd guess around 5 months, but he couldn't actually hold it and feed himself until 12 months.

DS is 14 months old and still won't hold it himself (or a sippy cup!). Chat Icon I know it is laziness, and wanting to be close to us (we cuddle when giving it).
