progesterone levels in early pregnancy
does anyone know what P4 levels are indicative of in early pregnancy? i asked dr. b for mine, because I heard they can be more indicative of multiples than beta numbers. my number at 10d5dt was 194 which they said was great. i thought that was pretty high. does anyone know if this indicative of multiples? i tried googling it and haven't had much luck so far.

they only gave me the number cause i asked cause im curious like that . originally they didnt tell me anything, but i assumed it was good cause they didnt have me change meds.

Re: progesterone levels in early pregnancy
Are you sure that wasn't your E2 #? Most labs just give a cut off number at some point (like 20 or 40), at least both labs I use do that.

I totally agree with the pp. The number is way to high and seems abnormal...I too think this could be your E2 number and not your P4....I just never heard a P4 being that high...
Below see the normal range for P4
Before pregnancy: 1 to 28 ng/ml
Conception to 12 weeks: 9 to 47 ng/ml
12 to 28 weeks: 17 to 146 ng/ml
28 weeks till birth: 55 to 200 ng/ml
Either way your HCG is nice and high so no need to worry about anything!! GL!!

Re: progesterone levels in early pregnancy
I was always told my Progesterone was over 70, never given a number.
With that said, both my pregnancies started off as twin pregnancies. I lost a twin at the same time frame each pregnancy. With my 1st, my progesterone was always high, with this past pregnancy, my progesterone was on the low side and I had to stay on the progesterone until I was 12 weeks.
Going by my experience, progesterone levels are not indicutive of multiples.

Re: progesterone levels in early pregnancy
I also wanted to ask, since your P4 is so high, why do they have you on 2CC PIO?
that is very high and most of us are prescribed 1CC or 1.5CC....I would call the doctor and find out if you can lower the dose....since your body is making high amounts you dont need 2CC.....PIO is not the healthiest for the growing baby so I would want a lower dose...

Re: progesterone levels in early pregnancy
i wanted to add here that i confirmed today with Dr. B that it def was my progesterone. he said its great though. he did also say that just like HCG it CAN be indicative of multiples but not necessarily. he also is keeping me on the 2cc PIO for at least a little while longer.
to the PP who asked, Im on 2cc cause i did a lupron trigger with my IVF and not an HCG one. the lupron trigger kills the corpus luteum so you are completely unable to make your own progesterone at the beginning. anyway it looks like im absorbing it well at least!

Enjoy the ride and let the sono do the talking. Numbers vary for everyone and can mean different things. It'll kill you if you over analyze them. That sono will answer all questions!
Take it easy, relax and congrats again!

Re: progesterone levels in early pregnancy
I know they like to see it over 20 so that sounds like a great #!! And I know I have read in the past that progesterone is a good indicator of multiples along with a high HCG. Congrats!
