GETTING ANOTHER PUPPY

Hi all! My husband and I decided to rescue another puppy. We have a 4 year old puggle right now. Im concerned though about training. I remember how hard it was with our dog now. She was a terror until 2 years old when she finally settled down.

Do you think its fine to keep the puppy in a crate in the bedroom and close the door while my older one has run of the rest of the house? Or do you think the puppy will make the older one crazy with barking?

Ive never had two dogs at one time.

Re: GETTING ANOTHER PUPPY

We always had two dogs at a time of different ages. We always trained second pup same way first pup was trained.

Went in cage at night and when no one home. Then as he/she became more aware of potty training we gave more and more space of where he/she was allowed to go. I think as long as you have the two interact with each thats the key. There not like a child were going to ask "hey why is he out when I cant be?" lol

I think it's fine to keep the puppy in the crate while you are not home and at night we did that and it worked out great.

Re: GETTING ANOTHER PUPPY

This is exactly what I would do.. I am all for the crate.. I still am after 4 years.. I just leave the door open and thats her safe place. All day and night any time she feels like going in, G/L!!1 I love that your rescuing !!! I wish I knew better when i got my Lola.. I will definately be doing it for all of my future pets!

Re: GETTING ANOTHER PUPPY

just keep the crate in the 'heart of the home' or whatever room she/you spend the most time in. if you put her in an area where she doesn't normally spend a lot of time (like a bathroom) it could cause a separation anxiety. our trainer warned us of this. so, we keep the dogs either in the kitchen or the living room b/c that is where we spend the most of our time!
